I thought tadpoles only ate algae? Maybe the large bull frog tadpoles eat other things, but I have had lots of toad taddies in my goldfish pond at my last house, and all I ever saw them eat was pecking at the algae growing on the liner or the plants.
Mosquitoes will not be able to breed in water if it is just dumped and replaced a couple times a week. They also do not like moving water and will seek still water to lay eggs.
Toads will eat anything that moves they can fit in their mouth I would guess. I do KNOW for a fact that they eat earthworms. That is a downer, cause I like those things in my gardens! I wonder if they eat slugs? I did see toads out mostly in the evenings and at night, did not notice them as much during the daytime. They are stupid though and drop into buckets of water and such that they cannot get out of and drown, so shallow water is needed and also sloped or textured sides for them to climb out onto. I had a lot of toads drown in my pond until I realized they could not get out of it. It had sides that went straight down and they couldn't get up the slick liner even though it was only a few inches. I ended up building a toad ramp!
