Anyone know name of this flower? While cleaning out the garage I came across it. Crinum maybe?

Spring has barely sprung and I'm already overwhelmed by everything I could be doing In The yard. Sighing!
I guess clearing dry stems, and not letting new growth get smothered by dry leaves, is a good start.
Plant it and they will come.

Yesterday was finally nice enough that I got my specialty snowdrops planted. They are a birthday splurge that I get every once in a while from Carolyn's Shade Gardens to add to my collection. This year I got 5 single bulbs of different cultivars "in the green". It always amazes me how expensive these are and how incredibly fast she sells out of them as soon as the new season's offerings go up for sale!!! Not much effort for the planting, but my body needs to get in shape for the gardening season so even that little bit hurt Whistling

Well, here's a news flash... I over did it in the yard today.

It is windy out there, but with all of the rain yesterday, weeds came out super easy. I emptied more nursery pots where things didn't make it. I'm really getting quite a collection again.

I dumped the soil in one of the beds by the back patio. I had cleared it out last year or two years ago and removed a bunch of clay and rock, which left the level down an inch or so.

My peach tree is covered with buds, so I moved it so the it isn't quite as accessible to the deer.

I'm toying with the idea of putting 4 4x4 posts in between the patio and. A/C unit. Once up, I would put a few 2x4s across and put my climbing roses at the bottom. I want to cross the canes so that the two different color blooms (red & yellow) mix across. The peach tree would be centered in the front, and various sun-loving stuff to fill in.

I would most likely run some pipe along the sides and maybe in front for hanging baskets.

Rick, is your peach a patio peach? I'm on the hunt for one. Did you get it at Seasons?

The variety I'm looking for is called 'Pix Zee'.

I think I did get it at Seasons, but it isn't a patio peach. I believe it's New Haven, a freestone variety. I figure I can keep it small by keeping in a large-ish container and regular pruning.

I've never seen Pix Zee in a nursery.

News flash, lol.

Friday I got some fat canna roots out of the shed, they never did freeze in there. Thumbs up and dug a trench and stuck them in. They should be cozy down in the dirt, getting hydrated and starting their roots for a few weeks.

Several kind of Daffodils are in bloom, seem early. Earlier than the Dutch crocus- unless the Dutch crocus- have died out. But more Daffodils are yet to bud.
Plant it and they will come.

While working outside today, I uncovered quite a few things sprouting under the leave. I have daffodils in bloom in several places, along with crocus and winter aconite.

Peonies are coming up as are hyacinth, bleeding hearts, hosta and fern. My rhubarb is almost 2 inches tall already. The climbing roses have shoots all along the canes anywhere from 1/2 to 1 inch. This weeks temps will really make things pop.

I put four single-flat sized heating mats (with a controller) along the raised back part of my kitchen island several years ago when I had a lot of bettas. They've gradually died off (of old age), and now I have just 3. That means I have at least 2 heating mats available for rooting cuttings and starting seeds! It's easy to watch for those first sprouts when they aren't popping up in flats in the basement.

I do have 2 flats in the basement now, mostly tomato seedlings and a handful of basil. These tomatoes will be planted out with protection in April. In a couple weeks, I'll start another round of tomato seedlings, timed for hardening off the week before the swap. I'll need to figure out garden space for them (might just try tucking 2 here, 2 there), but I won't be keeping more than 2 of each kind, and you KNOW I'll sow more than 2 seeds... So, I should have a good selection of OP tomatoes at the swap. Green Grin!

Actually was just looking at heating mats...I could use in storage room. Grow lights are set up like last year using my photography equipment. Tropicals are starting to push out leaves woot!!
“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

Could it be st johns wort? I've got something almost like a low shrub, a rosette of long arching stems... I thought it was st john's wort, but I tried to look it up in the database and couldn't find a match, so now I'm not sure what I have either! Mine is semi-evergreen and turns a bit reddish in winter.

I'd look closer at Ligustrum.

Here's a snap of St John's wart (ctr brownish shrub). I'll keep an eye on Mystery plant this spring. If it's Ligustrum that will be good news. If not, whatever it is gets the heave-ho.

Well, the time has come...

I'm turning in my resignation tomorrow. I just can't take that place any more.

I'm going to give them 4 weeks notice. One reason is so that they can get the new person, that supposedly starts tomorrow, up to speed. The other is so that they don't mess with the 7 weeks of PTO that I have sitting there.

It's going to be an interesting day.

Rick, it has been a long time coming. I know you are probably feeling both relief and trepidation, but I'm sure the relief is what will outweigh everything. Good luck tomorrow.
