Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Persian Market')

Persian Market was one of the first daylilies that I got when I did not know really that much about daylilies at the time, but I liked the colors of it ( still don't know that much about daylilies now lol ) this is one that I got lucky with, it's close to the house and it get afternoon shade depending on the time of the year, but it holds that color and those big bodacious blooms all through it's growing season for me. I will always have this daylily even with all the newer ones that I'm starting to get. right now I have Stokesia Klaus Jelitto planted next to it and it looks great next to each other. it's the oldest daylily that I have by far and the only Munson that I have. for me the specs for this daylily are right on.

'Persian Market' is a standout in a bed of pink daylilies in my backyard against the house (west-facing). It has been in the same spot for several years now, and has been a strong performer, with strong scapes, nice healthy leaves, and sturdy blooms with substance. I have moved other pinks away from the spot, because they just didn't measure up. In my photos, the color tends to be more muted, but I think it is because I tend to take the pictures when the sun is setting, and everything is a little hazy and different. (I love dirtdorphins' photo -- just exquisite.)

I bought this one in June of 2013 and it has multiplied into a nice clump. The clear pink color does not always photograph well, but Persian Market is a very clear pink, not fleshy colored. It has also rebloomed the last two summers after becoming an established clump. This year, it had two scapes per fan on its maiden bloom (this happened with several of my cultivars this year, I have made a note to check for this again next year). I also love the creamy midrib; it adds a nice finishing touch to the blooms.

The scapes here tend to be slightly taller here than the registered height, usually 32 to 33 inches. I haven't counted buds, but it blooms almost continuously here from early June to late August with the rebloom. Blooms are very consistent with no splotches.

I just got Persian Market in 2014 because some folks on this sight were raving about it. It has not disappointed! I love the nice warm color it puts in the garden. And even though it is registered at 27 inches, I know it was taller than that at the place where I bought it, which I love.

It is a mid season bloomer for me in my zone 6b garden. I only have pictures from 2015, so it bloomed from June 21st to July 21st. Given that I had such a small clump, that's not bad.

I got a little more than a double fan, so it has not had a chance to show much increase. Here is a picture of it from 2015 with Roses in Snow to the right and Tuscawilla Tigress in the back.

I haven't seen rust on it, so not sure about its susceptibility. It is definitely one that I hope does well because I love it.

I was given this daylily as a gift from a friend several years ago. It is an amazing daylily and always produces a multitude of beautiful flowers, even up here in south central WI.

I bought Persian Market about 18 years ago when I lived in Newberry, FL. I saw it in the open sunlit fields at a daylily open house in Alachua, FL and had to take it home. I planted it in full sun in a raised bed filled with potting soil for my daylilies and roses. It increased well, scapes were over the foliage at a little over 2 ft tall. The color is mesmerizing - one of the happiest color combinations in existence - a coralish pink. My daylily bloomed closest to Vic's photo of it.

It broke my heart to leave it behind when our house sold and it is absolutely on my list to get again. I think it is my favorite of the Munson's from that era. I never saw a bad flower on it nor any sign of disease - fungus, nothing untoward.

I was really not interested in this plant when I saw "shows susceptibility" in the data base here on ATP, but now that I know that rating depends on the result from just one garden and after reading the above reviews 'Persian Market' may make it onto my want list.

Persian Market was one of the first "named" daylilies that I got ( a Long time ago). I liked the color and size of the flower. As far as performance goes, it is one of those daylilies that one wishes all daylilies could be like. Even though it is an EVR---it grew quickly into a large clump that never failed to put on a great show.

I pulled 5 dead scapes off of 'Persian Market' this morning. One of them was a fused scape, so I did not count that one in the averages, it had 23 buds on it and I was not sure about the branching count, but here it is.


The other 4 scapes averaged 28 inches tall, 3 way branching with a 10 bud per scape average. There were no blooms left on the plant this morning. This year it first bloomed on May 1st.

Like Vickie, I bought PM after reading that people found it had little rust. Here in subtropical Queensland Australia the warmth and humidity for most of the year make for a rust haven. But I too was not disappointed. Very little or no rust. It is a vibrant coral pink. Love it.

I have had Persian Market for many years. It has formed a large vibrant clump on Daylily Hill where it blooms through July. Love the color! As everyone else has said, it is a happy plant that looks good with all its neighbors. I would never get rid of this one!

Update on PM 2021

Bloomed from July 8 to July 28 a real Midseason. Blooms really change color depending on weather.

Like Larry above, I had originally refrained from buying Persian Market because of its supposed susceptibility to rust (endemic here). However, I read through the reviews here and decided to give it a chance. I bought it in the fall of 2021 and planted it in the middle of a bed based on the expected height.

It bloomed beautifully in its first year in May and also rebloomed in August. The rebloom scapes were taller than expected. This fall (2022), I moved it to the back of the bed because it was too tall for where I had it. When I did so, I noticed that it had not increased, so here it seems to be a slow increaser.

I have been been pleased with Persian Market so far, pleased enough to keep it for now. It has shown some rust, but not a large amount. I am going to keep an eye on it. The blooms are gorgeous and live up to everyone's description--color is vivid and eye-catching from across the yard. Here's a picture from its first blooming period:

Persian Market bloomed from July 7 - 28 this year. Tons of bloom, I don't keep count on it, as it's an oldie.

2023, still a healthy clump, PM bloomed from July 9-28 with lots of bloom. Definitely not a rebloomer here.
