Hi Ken, Alice and Elaine...about Carter and Holmes. When I go to them in person I get better deals. I do like to get my media from them. They are the closest to me that sells media and they give me a good deal. Otherwise, I will not order from them of line to $$$$$$!

What a haul of treasures you got, Ursula. I think your C. Canhamiana coerulea 'Azure Skies' looks a lot like my NOID that's blooming now. It has a wonderful fragrance, too. I was going to stick a tag on it of C. purpurata but now I think I may choose the 'Azure Skies' tag instead.

You guys in Fla. are lucky. Our HD here in Georgia only carries the NOID phals and charges $20 each. The Lowes here are better. They sale their NOID phals for $8 to $15 each and they carry the orchids in a bag by Better Gro for $8 to $12 each and they have name tags in them. I got one of their bag orchids, a catt. named Blc. Cornerstone x (Makaha Gold x Walkeriana) 'Yellow lip - lavender '. Jim, this was the way the tag was labeled by the grower. Don't know if it is right or wrong?
I thought the selection at Silva was particularly interesting this time, there were a lot of different Orchids to be had! Nice to go when they have an official sale!
An event coming up. I've done the behind the scenes tour, but never this one

Brandon Tam, orchid collection specialist at The Huntington, highlights some of the hidden gems within the botanical greenhouses. These are not your typical supermarket blooms, Tam explains, but a vast array of orchid genera, species, and hybrids—everything from Aerangis to Zygopetalum. Many of the plants are rare and endangered. Come and explore the diversity of the botanical kingdom's largest flowering plant family. A plant sale follows the program. Free; no reservations required. I've never been in their greenhouse, but if it's anything like the LA Arboratum, it will be an oven in mid July. I'll satisfy my orchid shopping with the show in Westminster Mall at the end of July...it' air conditioned.
