Oooooh nooooo!!! I think Shirley might be sterile or not very prolific. There is VERY LITTLE pollen. This pic is super enlarged, but the yellow pollen on top, you can't even see with the naked eye. The one on the bottom right you can see, but it looks minute. Crying

Yeah... looks like their just beginning to burst their seams. Or have they opened already? I can't tell.

Seems like also to me, but the female part already has white tips - my flowers get those mostly on the second day, when them pollen is already gone...

Oh, you guys are so right. Thank you SO much! This the same Bloom I took a pic of this morning, only it's now 3 in the afternoon here. The second shot is Baby Boo waiting to be a mama. She now has a knee high on her head. Rolling on the floor laughing

Great photo Margo. Yep looks like most the pollen is still sealed up.
Hurray! 'Baby Boo' is going to be a mommy. Are you going to try polinating/crossing with one of the other semps?

Lynn, the only other one I have that's even close to blooming right now is arach Sion. I could try it, if it blooms in time. I think it's gonna be close, even with Baby Boo, because it's behind, too. But, Shirley Temple has a much bigger Bloom stalk, and there are still a couple of stems that aren't blooming yet. Shirley has already selfed itself on one of the other blooms, but I want that Shirley's Baby Recluse. Rolling on the floor laughing

Sorry I missed this. I was out all day and just got back from visiting with Lynn.

Sometimes I've taken off the flower and put it in a warm window. Generally the anthers dehisce their pollen and it's pretty and fluffy. OK now TIME TO CROSS. Make sure you have protected the pod parent. The stamens should spread out like a rack of lamb and be slightly sticky at the tip.

Go for it! I have one heuff blooming but nothing that inspires me to cross. The cantabricums should be blooming soon. Am intrigued with their forms. Need that football-sized version though......

I protected the pod parent, but it isn't blooming yet. ...maybe tomorrow. That pic came out funky for some reason. You have to click on it to see the top, but then it's huge.

Kevin can you take a look at Young,s website and tell me if that is really Jungle Jhadows. The one i have with the name Jungle shadows is not a solid color. i would call it blue gray with a burgundy edge. Confused

Jo Ann,

I know Young's is correct because I gave it to them! It can go through many phases of color. Combining it with the genes from Kiler is what unlocked so many interesting colors and patterns.

Thanks Lynn and Kevin. I may have another one with an incorrect name. I will post some pics tomorrow and see what you think. The one I have never gets solid red with watermarks like that..... so I think it IS an imposter. Sighing! This is becoming an increasingly frustrating and dissappointing situation that I am in with so many just plain WRONG names but I am very greatfull to both of you for you help as I do NOT want to carry this mess to an on line site.
Thank You!

I can't see any reason to try to cross these two. maybe shorten the stolons on Ali, but they do not look very compatable to me ???

Jo Ann,

I did an arachnoideum X ciliosum cross a couple years ago. Only got one seedling! The seedling was VERY fuzzy but also very sensitive to winter wet. Eventually pitched it because it was such a problem plant.
