Adding any organic matter is good, which will improve drainage, add tilth and fertility, moderate moisture levels and temps. But sand + clay = concrete.

There should be no need to buy anything to improve soil. Just organic matter & time. Works as well in solid clay of OH as it does in the sandy soil of AL.
