I use my soft drink bottles for cuttings. Another advantage is being able to see when roots have developed on cuttings. When I see the roots through the clear side of the bottle I know I can re-pot it.

Thanks, Joy!

I'm getting tons of water bottles from my job. I just hate having to destroy them to get the rooted seedlings out.

But, at least they get used twice before they end up in the landfill.

P.S. Thanks for reading my Blog!

Umm... it's Jay.
Do you bottles have ridges or and odd shape? I use Pepsi bottles the sides are straight and I can remove them without damaging the bottle. I also think the plastic is a little heavier that most water bottles.

Sorry, Jay! I saw "Joy's Hemp Jewelry" and thought oh Joy!

I'm using the 16.5 ounce Ozarka and Dasani drinking water bottles for the seedlings. I potted them up from the seedling trays. They are an hourglass shape, and they have ridges. It would be hard to pull or push past that curve in the middle. I thought I could split the bottle in half horizontally right below the curved section, then split the top half vertically. Once the top half is freed, I could then lift it up, leaving the bottom half intact. This would leave me a 3"-4" cup I could reuse for seed-starting next time. But, I don't think the soil would pull easily from the ridges...bummer

That's what I thought. Joy is my son's fiance. She sells her handmade jewelry on etsy.
