As a rule of thumb, one should never take photos in the middle of the day, but I couldn't resist grabbing the camera. I call the second one: Drinking deeply of the Summer Wine

(y'all already know this, but cilck to embiggen)

Ooooh! Great and beautiful photos! I love me some STs! A little off topic (the pics got me thinking of my STs around here)... Does your Buddleia Weyeriana make seeds? I would gladly pay you for some seeds if so. I have been wanting some BF bush, and this is a beaut!
I looked into Buddleia Blue Chip, and have a perfect spot for that one too, but I will look closer to home to save on the shipping many places want. Blinking

Thanks!

I got my first one from High Country Gardens, but they no longer offer it (that said, let me encourage you to explore Buddleia Alternifolia, if you haven't yet. When I first saw one, it reminded me of a weeping willow with flowers). Found my second one at Lowes or Home Depot a couple years ago -- I was SHOCKED that they would have something so unusual in their collection of standard plants. (I love my Lowes Garden Center folks, but don't expect to find unusual specimens there)

Its page on DG says that it has seeds. I've never paid any attention, really. I deadhead through the summer, then leave it alone for the winter and cut it back in Feb usually. If dried-up flower heads = seeds, I'll be happy to collect some for you if you send me a treemail in October to remind me.

I just have to share this one other photo (it's days like yesterday that make me wish I had a dSLR instead of just a really good quality point&shoot.)

As is evidenced by that shot, some of the point 'n shoots do a fabulous job. Of course, having a terrific photographer behind it really helps!

Do you know Dahlianut? She needs to know about 'embiggening', lol!

Thanks! I've always said that it's the user, not the tool. One of my pet peeves is folks who think it's the camera that makes the picture. If you don't have the vision for the shot, you'll get bupkus no matter what camera you use. My mom spent $300 on a camera back in the 90s, and complained because it still cut off people's heads or feet when she took pictures. Hilarious! The big difference I've seen between my shots and those of dSLRs is the clarity. My camera has a phenomenal lens (Panasonic camera, Leica lens), but I think a dSLR would have pretty much let you count each individual hair on the bee's bottom. Then again, that might be something those other folks do when processing the photo, as opposed to the actual raw photo itself.

(and you're right - "embiggen" should probably be added to DN's glossary or whatever she calls it.)

LOL, yup, her dictionary. I'll point it out to her!

You're welcome, I think it's a great shot. Funny story about your mom.... stupid camera, lol!

BTW, I found it is *very* easy to propagate Buddleia.... if you haven't tried it before, it's a great place to start. You could have 20 of those babies in no time!

More examples of: "it's the user, not the tool..." (although I have to admit, an auto-focus tool is a GREAT advantage)

These are from Sept 2002, when I had a 2.1mp digicam. All taken at Callaway Garden's butterfly house.

Mind you, for every awesome shot, I'll have 5 not-awesome shots. That last one -- I didn't realize until I saw it on the computer what I had actually gotten a picture of. I thought it was just 2 butterflies sharing a plant. Hilarious!

I bet - it looks like either one giant butterfly or a mirror/ reflection of one. *Very* nice.

Good shots!
I love the paper kites! I work at the tropical butterfly exhibit when it is here at the Botanic Gardens. I have lots of pictures and cherish each one.

Here is a thread for tropical butterflies....please post some there if you have others. I haven't gotten around to posting many as yet myself. I work at the exhibit here at Botanic Gardens when they have it. Love the tropicals!
