More sensitive to drought than expected. Of the two I originally got, one died almost immediately. The replacement plant lasted about six months. Love the color on the blooms, though.

Marilyn, I tried to root cuttings, but none ever took. Surprised me because all the similar Salvias I have root if you just breathe on them right. Or so it seems. Hilarious!

I have never tried a "yellow" that would thrive in my 7a gardens. No cultivar was particularly vigorous the first year and those that managed to survive the winter were so damaged they didn't thrive in their 2nd year. This is a case of you can't have everything. Someday someone with develop a hardy one.

This cultivar of ours, Elk Lemon Light, has more of the characteristics of a Salvia greggii than any other yellowish variety of this sort. Hence it has done well in Zone 7 winters in many places - northern Georgia, Kentucky, Arizona, Washington, DC, etc. Out of bloom it strongly resembles a typical S. greggii. Yellow clones are never as strong or fast growing, and more difficult to propagate as well.

@FBTS Kermit,

I grew your Elk Lemon Light in 2013 and loved the flower color. I had it in a large container tub with one or two other salvias on our sunny patio. I don't remember now if it overwintered or not, but it was a beautiful yellow color. I "drooled" every time I saw the flowers. LOL

Is it a regular order salvia or a special order salvia if I decide to get it again?

Thanks Kermit!

Hopefully, it won't be out of stock when I place my order, otherwise I'll click the "notify me when back in stock" button and hope it is available when my plants get delivered. Thumbs up
