I have collected some cornflower seeds from a plant in my mother-in-law's garden and I hope to plant them in pots for their first year as I don't have much space for a while. I am wondering how big will they grow in their first year and how close can I space the seeds?

oops , Cornflower , As in Bachelors Buttons I have difficulty with them being large and bushy ,, Blooms first year from seed an 8 inch pot should do ,, Ones that live through winter can get huge , does not happen often for me here
In the Butterfly garden if a plant is not chewed up I feel like a failure
