Hi

I cut back my Calla Lillies last October and brought them in ..
Every so often I popped some waer into the container .. never really LOOKED at it ..
Well .. I have growth !!
Long shoots have busted through the soil ..
Can't put them out up here until at least mid May ..
Shall I just keep keeping on ??

I also bring my calla lily pots (containers) in for the winter. However, I let them completely dry out, put them in the cooler basement, and they get no water until I want them to sprout. I'm guessing you will need to supply them with some artificial light. Otherwise, I'm not sure if they will make it . . . but really don't know, just guessing.

They do get some direct sunlight for about an hour each day.
The shoots look strong, right now, in another few weeks they may not.
Here's hoping Callas are forgiving

i wouldn't give them any more water until you're ready to start them growing for the season. its getting to the point where new shoots may begin sprouting, but I wouldn't consider it "new growth". too much water now may cause fungus/root rot problems. its hard to not get excited, but i'd let them be until consistently warmer weather gets here. especially in your zone.

I won't be putting it outside until at least May .. so, I plan to ignore it for a bit, well, maybe a wee peek every now and again

Mine don't go outside until May too.

Typically, when I put calla bulbs away for the winter, I take them out of the soil and put them in brown paper bags and then up int my attic to overwinter. This allows me to inspect the bulbs for problems.

I tried one year to overwinter them in their pots, but they have consistently done better for me when removed from the soil. I don't know if it is the fact that I can get rid of any bulbs that show signs of disease or that they get new soil in the spring as to the better performance.

Mine have gotten quite tall as well. I do keep their numbers down by trading them. I had over 20 different kinds at one point and no where to put them all

Dianthus barbatus called Green Trick or Green Ball and it seems to be used by flower arrangers.

The plant was bought by me as 'Citronella' .. but, it was obviously mismarked
It did VERY well .. but, unfortunately I could not find seeds from it .. so, it must propagate another way ..

Without a southern window in full sun or sufficient artificial lighting they'll grow leggy stems reaching for the light, but they'll survive just fine and bulk right up again when they're outside in full sun for a week or two.

Here's mine, just planted it outside after months during winter growing indoors. You can see it didn't look too good at that point.


And here it is with others of its kind that looked just the same. They've gone beserk lol
