I often visit a Forum which has the red Yes! in the New? column but no new posts in the forum. I use FF v6. Is this the result of a FF setting?

If you have threads you are also watching in the forum and you click on the thread itself to read it, it will erase the red Yes from that thread but not from the Forum. I try to make it a habit of just clicking on the Forum itself and then visit the threads within it, that way it clears the red Yes from the Forum.

No not confused Sue. Seems like a glitch to me. I do pretty much as you do.

If a Forum doesn't have any new POSTS why have the red Yes! on the home page? This is only upon a new visit to ATP I think, so probably has to do with cache or some other techy thang.

It is sort of a techy thing.

If you clicked on a thread that you watched, you are taken straight to that thread. So, the system knows that you've seen that thread.

However, that thread is technically different that the forum as a whole. So, where you have your list of watched forum, the system is still patiently waiting for you to click on that link (which would take you to the main page of the forum). It doesn't check to see if there are any other new threads, it only knows that you didn't click on that link.

As the site gets busier, this is less of a problem because there are always new threads and posts besides the one that you are watching.

See, I knew someone would come along and explain it better than I did!

Whew- I'm glad you got it! I sometimes feel like I'm talking in circles when I try to explain that one! Rolling on the floor laughing

Sue- A noble effort, really!
