I was digging Sam Cook's Twistin the Night Away. I thought I heard chicken slats. First of all what is a chicken slat and what does it have to do with this song? A quick trip to check out the lyrics... oh CHICK IN SLACKS. My husband always thought ZZTop's hit was all the girls crazy ABOUT A SHOTGUN MAN. I said no honey that is sharp dressed man. Hilarious!

When my sister and I were young, we thought the Creedence Clearwater Revival were singing "There's a bathroom on the right" instead of "There's a bad moon on the rise." Green Grin! Green Grin!

Anna I heard Bad Moon on the Rise just the other day. I can see how that's what it sounds like. CCR is my favorite band.

I informed him it was a FLAT BED Ford. Hilarious! Hilarious!

my daughter was 5 (?) we were walking in to seaworld while on vacation. There were some people behind us. we had recently bought Disney's Mulan and there is a part in the movie where she is looking into some water and sees her reflections while sining 'when will my reflection show'.

OK so dd is skipping along singing the song at the top of her little lungs and comes to the best part .........
'when will my erection show' .... Hilarious! ... and kept right on going....

Just saw this thread -- I am the world's worst (well, one of the worst, for sure) as far as hearing the wrong thing in song lyrics -- although I can't think of any particular instances at the moment.

Frillylily, I think your daughter's rendition is a prize winner!! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Had friend when I was a kid (`60s) who insisted that the Beatles said in "Rocky Raccoon" that Rocky "went back to his room only to find Agent Five-O." Had to explain to him what a Gideon's Bible is. I guess it was the heyday of spy shows and that got in his head.

Welcome to ATP David. Welcome! @OakRidgeRambler

Two of the most confusing for me came from my children back in the early 80's. (39,41 and 43) Whistling

My daughter, 4, our youngest, was playing with her dolls and singing to herself. I asked her what she was singing and she said "You know that song Mommy...squeeze me while I kiss this guy."

We listened to a lot of music when the kids were young. We would ask what they wanted to hear. For the longest time they would all ask for "El Stoppio" Neither of us could figure out what they wanted to hear, then one day, weeks later I put The Rolling Stones "Start me up" on the stereo and had three kids yelling El Stoppio El Stoppio.... go figure Shrug!

Oh, The song my sweet little one was singing? Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze..."Excuse me while I kiss the sky"....

Thanks for the welcome. It's a good site and I've already learned a few things.
As to lyrics, yes, Jimi Hendrix's is a classic misunderstood. Just a couple of days ago I heard Johnny's Rivers' "Secret Asian Man" as I drove home. Chuckled all the way into the house.

My daughter and I were singing an old classic today "Home on the Range" to her two little ones. She's 34 and never knew that the second line is "where the deer and the antelopes play" not "where the beer and the cantelopes rave".

These are GREAT! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I grew up with a neighbor girl named AnnMarie about the time when Creedence came out with Looking Out My Backdoor. Of course "Tambourines and elephants..." turned into "AnnMarie's and elephant".

DH is always, I mean always making songs go his way. One of the funniest was while he was singing (if you can call it that) in front of a group of our friends. MC Hammer's Hammer Time was on the boom box. He started dancing, again, if you can call it that, and sung out, "Half Time!" in stead of "Hammer Time". I think we all laughed for about 5 mins.
Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love Truly, Laugh
uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you Smile.
