Cherie,
I hope you made room for them anyway. If the roots didn't freeze, they could come back. Check the feeder roots. If they are still healthy, they have a good chance of coming back.

This is what healthy feeder roots look like:

If they look like this, they are dead.

This past winter, we had a power outage and I though I had lost most of my Brugs because the greenhouse went down below freezing for several hours. This photo shows what I saw a few days later.

Brown crispy leaves and dead branches everywhere! The damage Brugs died down to soil level. About 1/2 of them came back eventually. Unfortunately, they were still rather fragile going into summer when the summer heat and drought pushed them into summer dormancy. A smaller number have regrown from scratch now that temperatures have fallen. My greenhouse will have plenty of room in it this winter.

I'd volunteer room in the greenhouse if you could get them here. LOL

I know Veronica, I remember...........also I have put them in the garage that very first winter with them. Remembered thinking they were toast., Cut them down to the ground and left them tiill I could get them outside and put something else in the pots Come March they all came up from the roots and were the most beautiful supplant and awesome amount of blooms and multiple flushes. Gotta get Ed to finally move things around in the garage by the plant table get them situated in there.

This coming winter, I'm going to have an added problem. After waiting 10 years for a promised new house, our new home is almost complete, but it is located on another part of the ranch, too far from my "temporary greenhouse" for me to use the temperature sensors I have. I will have to wait until spring to move everything next to our new home and that will mean I will have to make sure I check the greenhouse heater and fuel before each freeze and during a warm spell. My Ed would rather do anything else rather than help me with my garden although he does mow the lawn, but he was kind enough to let me get part time help for the garden as well. Ed works in Mississippi. Since I hurt my back, I've had some help with the heavy ranch work and now with moving and re-potting the heavy pots.

Gordon,
Something like that would be fantastic! Did it retain that bi-color? Is it a new seedling?

Yes... something I like to see ... I could watch it for hours... it's a shame it's so short..
about that lovely flower... I guess it's a double as far as skirts.. and a double as far as color... in that the first few days it looked like that... and then for a couple of days it was solid pink... doublely... so it's got a flower of two colors... I guess like the ones that are white for a few days.. then pink there after ... and they are called pinks... when they are really white then pink almost equally..

this is the last few blooms on a brug I've had outside all the time .. this will be the third year to winter over outside... unmulched... but right aganst the air vent... which seems to keep the container warm enough for the brug to return.. it also gets reflected sun/heat from the metal vents and roof...

Yes... it's all about microclime ... finding the areas where the good conditions are multiplied and the harmful effects are somehow diminished...
in one of my more sheltered areas.. growing today is my vote for the hardiest of my brugs... and it's one of the strongest growers of all through out the year.... putting out more foilage.. and more flowers than any I have.... today it gets the award for it's leaves and flowers... so into the middle of November..
and the award goes to... Emerald Frost... and a special Hi to Brenda for her part in it...
remember we've.. already enjoyed 4 " of snow here.. and some low temperature and here she is in the beginning of the rain that's marching across the east today.. She has more color when it's warmer.. and there are flowers not in the frame of this picture

Do you overwinter Emerald Frost outdoors as well?

OH...I could winter it outside in front of the vent I'm sure... but it will go into the cool room... if that project gets started.. being out is them getting used to the cold... as they drift into a dormant state...
Emerald Frost is as delusional as I am..
but there's a few others doing something... although not as well ... Salmon Perfection is doing it today ...and still showing a bit more of it's color than Emerald Frost
