I have only one Honeysuckle vine and it really needs to be cut back. But I am unsure how far to cut it back. Can I cut it back to just about where the first branches branch off from the base? I know I need to do it early spring. I love how big this vine is but I want to give it a bigger trellis to climb. Here is a picture of it.

This is my only Gold Mound Spirea. As you can see it also needs to be trimmed. Is it okay to trim this bush back to about 8 inches from the ground. This one also needs to be done early spring. I love how big it is but it hangs over the flower bed and is in the way when mowing especially when it is covered in bees. Thank you all for your help.

I chopped my honeysuckle back to about a foot tall. Cut it back that hard a year ago and it grew like gangbusters last summer.

I don't have spirea, but I've done some pruning for other people and cut those back really, really hard too.

Thanks AnnaZ. I appreciate your advice. I googled it but one never knows what to believe from what website. I trust the advice that I get here on ATP.

I see you are from Lansing, IA. We have stopped there to get gas for our boat when our group goes to LaCrosse.

We actually live in the country about 10 miles south of Lansing, Lansing is a great little river town. We hope to get out fishing more in our pontoon boat. We have a boat slip in Lansing.
