Definitely a Red-bellied. Nice shots there, Christine.
I saw my pair of Grey Catbirds up in the bamboo yesterday, but didn't get a picture of them. Hoping to see babies some time next month, maybe. They sure do make cat-like sounds!

Claudia, I've had sporadic sightings of the Brown Thrasher around here the past couple of weeks. We usually see them from Mid March through the summer months.
J, I can understand why you picked Plato ... oh those eyes! Great shots of the Geese, Ducks and Gulls! Those little ducklings are adorable with that little topknot on their heads ... I googled and there is one called Crested Duck: http://www.bing.com/images/sea...
Mika, the Kori Bustard certainly is an interesting looking and big bird!
Christine, that is a lovely photo of a handsome male Red-bellied Woodpecker. The Red-bellied are the most prolific of the WP's that we see in our area. They come to my feeders for suet, peanut nuggets and raisins.

I had to catch up here after having been swamped for days.
Just wow at all the wonderful photos. What diversity too!
Those little ducklings.
I have some photos still in the camera.
Our first female hummingbird of the year arrived today.

wildflowers said:Yay Ann, on your first hummingbird! I'm looking out for them, any day now!!
They'll be to your house soon Christine! A male arrived on St. Patty's day but no females until the other day. So now the dance begins. The males & females will seemingly get along for a while until the females begin laying eggs & taking care of young & then the fellas will get a whupping like you wouldn't believe. Those females can be mighty mean to those boys.

It was very cloudy this afternoon but I got a picture of a Crow ... there have been so many of them around lately and the Mockingbirds are not happy. Crows eat other birds eggs and baby birds. I wish I could have gotten a picture when a group of Mockingbirds chased this guy off but they were too fast.
Earlier today I saw the dog by the fence looking across the water at lots of splashing along the shoreline. I didn't know what it was until I uploaded the pictures to my laptop ... seems a bunch of juvenile Brown-headed Cowbirds were splashing and bathing in the water:

So cute, Lin!
Ann, @flaflwrgrl - I thought of you earlier today while we were sitting outside and I heard a cardinal bird singing "Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, chips"

Philip, oh my goodness that first photo is amazing! I love the beautiful swans and that Black Headed Tern too! Is the Waterhen hiding in those reeds or do they build their nests there?

Well, it's the last day of March; I can't believe April is upon us already but I'm so happy because it means we are getting closer and closer to our move! I was outside working in the yard for about 5 hours today and I had the camera sitting on the bench nearby so that in between weeding, raking, moving pots, playing with the dog and sitting on the bench, I could get some pictures.
I hope someone will have photos to start a new thread for the month of April tomorrow! I'll be around sporadically the next few weeks and I look forward to seeing everyone's bird photos!

Hi Lin,..the sun had just gone behind a cloud for that first picture,..the Waterhen will build a nest in that area though i wish it didn't as the water will drop by about four feet pretty soon,..this happens and the nest is left on high out of the water.
Lin your pictures are awesome,..worth gazing at with every detail to be seen,..i love every one of them

Lovely, Lin. If ever you get bored (fat chance, I know!) you can take up nature photography as a professional.
More wonderful photos from Philip, too. I really love the sky in your first photo - very beautiful. We had similar flooding in the fields around our village in Oxfordshire, it felt as though we were in the Lake District. But it all drained away after a while. Love the mute swans, too - interesting how they look so much more elegant in water than they do out of it! And moorhens/waterhens are one of my favourites. They can get really tame around people. I hope she's not stuck with a skyscraper nest!
Still nothing on the bats, except that a local has suggested where they might be nesting. Might be worth a look-see...
