Can you believe this? I saw it on Facebook with no link to where it came from.
@Trish would love this! How fun to make an entire patio area.

The inside flower part looks newly planted or ??? . . . but this is the greatest use of river rocks I've ever seen.

I agree
We all should give it a try. It's beautiful and it looks simple enough. The hard part would be making it really level. I hate walkways that aren't level.

Anyone know where one can find subtly colored river rocks like those in that photo? I really love that look! We have an atrium with a small pond at the front of our home we're moving to in May and I've been trying to think of something to do around the little pond to make it look nicer. I cleaned the area up a bit before our tenants moved in a year ago; there were Pothos/Devil's Ivy vines growing all over the place, even up the walls and attached to the siding so I yanked all of it out and removed a couple of other plants and empty pots of dirt that contained plastic flowers and trash. There's still a lot I need to do once we get moved in. The Bird of Paradise will be relocated to an area outside in the yard somewhere because there isn't enough sun in the atrium for it to do well or bloom. I look forward to getting settled into the house and sprucing up this area. I'm probably going to remove some of the pavers and reset and level the ones around the edge of the pond. Here's a photo of the area; would love ideas, suggestions, etc.

I got river rock at stone yard. Beautiful colors in the small netted bags...small stones. The bigger stuff not as colored and at two yards I went to, the rock was sold by size. So, I could not get a large amount of mixed sizes

I have used sparkling glass mulch and that looks real pretty. Landscape fabric laid first so it would not sink...then topped with the mulch. Stays great for years ( so far ) hose it off if it starts looking a wee bit dusty / dull. Would look pretty near water. Got that at county landfill.... They crush their own...sold by the scoop...a big machine sized scoop...carried it off in the pickup bed.

Here are some photos of river rock color..you can see that plain tan/grey or colored would go well with your beautiful brickwork. Your pond is in such a nice intimate space. One photo is misleading because the rocks are wet. Some rocks were 6 -8 inch rock in pallets and others were 10-12 inch. Again the stone yard would not make me a pallet of mixed size. I bought a few small BAGS of the palest blue that look like blue eggs but not in photos. Hope this helps.

The glass mulch...can't find a photo. It is multicolored but green is by far the predominant color...sparks up real nice. I can take a photo for you tomorrow if you would like

You may have to enlarge and stretch to see. Sorry. Best I could find.

Vic, I do plan on painting that yellow wall ... yellow is not a favorite color of mine and I dislike wall; not too fond of blues either but I love green shades and a medium sage green is what I'd been thinking of for that area. I'll have to remember to take before and after photos when I get the job finished later in the summer. Smiling

Rosie, great photos! I'll have to see if we have any stone yards around this area!!

Lin.. Are you up for suggestions because I think the reference to the waterand the serene setting calls for abit of blue in the green. This is mostly green.. It has a bit of blue underglaze..

Course it is monitor dependent ...if you enlarge and stretch you can see the color sans the distractions

That is a beautiful color, Rosie. I'd love to do a project like this, but so far I haven't found any good source of the nice river rock. It may be a local thing in some areas only.

We have more stone yards that I can count... guess big $$$$ - not shabby businesses ..decked out real well...huge new trucks. If you see new trucks and equipment......look out!

No patience for molds...but I think should be easy enough to turn the big river sized out from a mold. Can purchase the smaller.

I took a few of the largest ...10-12 inchers......stood each on edge in gravel to support upright to make a serpents tail....round and round... Had a grand idea...an asian simple design...a dream serpent...got outdoor oil based GOOD pain...painted them rocks...

Uh no......nope.... Rocks don't like paint...now my serpent has a speckled tail! Ah, its all good! Rolling on the floor laughing
