I got a bit behind on sowing my perennials being sick for a bit ...some that need may need cold...I am zone 6b and have quite a few more I want to do. What are your thoughts, am I wasting my time

What I still would really like to sow...
Delphinium
Salvia
Goldenrod
Aster
Baptisia
Ironweed
Hollyhock
Rudbeckia
Clover

Delphinium need a long cold period ,, Ironweed I have never had any luck with at all , etc (i don't know .
The others I would say go for planting ,

Salvia usually come up when their ready ,
Goldenrod about the same , nearly a sow any time
Perennial Hollyhock are a second season bloom , Rarely a first year bloom , slow often times to germinate . very slow ..
I had some older Baptisia seeds that were supposedly suppose to be stratified , they grew anyway ,
Rubeckia , as to what type they are , about anytime
Clover , can be slow to appear other times it poofs and it's there ,, another that is about anytime , they will appear when their ready
Except for ironweed I have grown all these ,, still have most ,,

If spring is coming too fast in your area, you might sow seeds with moist vermiculite in sandwhich bags and either freeze them or just chill in refrigerator.

One kind of Delphinium, I just sowed, said to freeze the seeds for 24 hours to break dormancy. They were the Dasante Blue Delphinium.
Most of the older Delphiniums like cooler starting , but don't require really cold temperatures.

Caroline. I think I will do that with the delphiniums since they won't be here for another week or so.

It's supposed to be really warm this week almost 70 I want spring but I'm a month behind for seed sowing Everything is way too early.

Thanks Caroline for the information. I'm way past done with ws'ing. Weather has been spring like since the middle of Feb for me. Do not get me wrong, I'm still sowing, just spring sowing as we still get chilly nights. Days are very warm though. One of my gardening friends is doing the vermiculite you are talking about and I'll be passing this information along. I almost bought vermiculite today and now that I have read this it's time to make a decision as my beds are not necessarily ready and this might be the better way to go for now.

I like vermiculite, but you can also use paper towels as a starting medium.
Some people use coffee filters too.
