Has anyone seen one with foliage like this. I weed so many of these out because they are two prolific here but I leave those with more intense or unusual color or like this one that just looks very different. Wasn't sure what it was until it bloomed last year and now it is back and the foliage looks the same. Very different. Any thoughts? I tip my hat to you.

That does look different and beautiful too, maybe you have a natural hybrid. Smiling

I tip my hat to you. There is another one just a few feet away. I'm not weeding them out. I agree that they are quite beautiful. I took some leaves and a flower to Annie's Annuals to see what they thought. They agreed that it was a very unusual Eschscholzia californica. They have so many there. I purchase a two. 'Rose Chiffon' and 'Apricot Chiffon'. The gold crown sparrows keep eating the foliage down to the ground so this is a second attempt. I found no foliage that resemble the ones here but E. caespitosa was close but smaller in stature with a collarless yellow flower and it is an annual. I tip my hat to you.

I love the California Poppies, but they don't seem to do well around here. Smiling

I'm really surprised to hear they don't do well for you in Texas! Sighing!

I lived in San Antonio for 12yrs. I remember the caliche clay. Lots of wildflowers but not Eschscholzia. I notice the nursery where I purchased some fancifully colored ones are growing in a potting soil. Might be worth a try.

Your poppy is beautiful! I love poppies too, but don't have much luck with any except the red ones. Here's a photo I took last week at the Dallas Arboretum. It's a California poppy that was labeled "White Linen".

That is such a pretty poppy, GrammaChar! It looks so silky.

Like Frostweed, I haven't had any luck growing poppies.
