It might be common mullein, verbascum thapsus. If it is, it's pretty but invasive if you let it seed.

It does look like it and I'm happy to have it..
They don't seem to reseed much here for some reason. I've only seen 5 total on a 360 acre farm since I've been looking for it.

Found these in a flower bed shortly after moving to North Carolina; a friend said '' let it flower before you do anything''. It had those yellow flowers on it before we dug it up.

Have found out some seeds escaped us ... the plant will come up one year and not flower -- the following year ... it gets tall and flowers.
Don't have the space you do -- so, the have to go.
