HelpMeFind.com is a valuable resource. That's where I find the lineage data.

Distant Drums is one I've had my eye on for a few years. I think Reagan's offered it, but I waited too late to order from them and I haven't seen it offered anywhere else this year.

Mike ...

Actually, many roses did come over on the Mayflower ... Big Grin and other ships going back and forth for trade during the early years of our country's history.

When I first met Kim Rupert, my primary rose mentor, he only talked about roses in lineages and classes. I was a complete novice. He didn't dumb it down for me. Instead, he gave me a long list of non-picture rose books to read and study. He also made me make up my own lineage trees long before they were available on HMF.

It's just a way of knowing roses from a different point of view. It's the growing of roses that is the adventure.

I'd forgotten about Edmunds'. Are they still a reliable source? For some reason I keep thinking some folks had issues with them...

I wouldn't recommend them outright because there have been issues. On the other hand, some of my best roses came from Edmunds', including some I bought during their half-price sale. Maybe you should wait for their half-price sale. That way, if they send you a dud, you won't have paid much for it.

Does anyone remember when Edmunds' has its half-price sale?

I remember that most of the roses were reduced to $10 each in April or May the year I bought Koko Loco at that price, so you don't have that long to wait.

The roses I've gotten from Edmunds in the last several years were decent. Our local nurseries still carry Distant Drums, probably because it is known as a rose that can handle our harsh conditions. Edmunds doesn't start marking roses down to half until it is too late to start a bare root rose here. Chamblee used to carry DD, but from them, it will be small and own root.

Chamblee's isn't listing DD as available right now. I'd planned on getting it there because I've grown a couple of other Buck roses on their own roots and they've performed well.

I've gotten in on those clearance specials from Wayside Gardens when it is rather late to plant, but have had great luck.

I was trying to order from Northland last week, and everything disappeared from my basket every time I went to check out! I tried several times, then gave up and made the order with austin. Maybe their code wasn't written to accommodate mobile customers. It was late at night so I didn't attempt to call. Saved me some money in the long run, because I only found 4 at Austin. Northland does have a good selection of unusual roses both in color and type.
Sequoia carried several russet roses and I bought a few when they closed, but then I lost the tags. I think one is "Iced Tea".
'Anne Henderson' is a lovely orange-russet one I bought from Palatine that I would recommend.

Hope it is ok to ask this question here. I "rescued" this miniature rose from the grocery store for $2 on Saturday. Hurray! Could not believe my eyes when I saw the color Lovey dubby No name tag, of course. Confused Any idea what it might be? One of the buds is revealed enough that I can see it is a mauve-ish color before it opens. Any hints on transitioning it to living outdoors in the garden?

What a lovely little fellow! And a bargain too! I'm not up on miniature names at all, but those potted minis usually transition to the garden easily when I've planted them.

What a find! I keep checking our stores, hoping they'll get some in.
What I do with these is take them out of the pot and completely bare root them, verrry gently. There will be 4 or 5 plants in there, and if roots are really intertwined, I leave them together. I repot them in a good planting mix in separate 1 gallon pots. I set them outside as soon as we're into 50s at night, and let them grow a bit. Later, I plant them in the ground, giving them about a square foot apiece. I have some that have been in my garden for 7 years now. It drives me nuts to not know the names! Lovey dubby

It reminds me of 'Loving Touch', but I am not certain of the identification as LT is generally more apricot in color. However, I have seen it with the color shown in your photos.

I just don't think 'Loving Touch' is in commerce anywhere today.

@gemini_sage Neal...how is this section of your garden shaping up? I really do like the colors in this palette. I'm sort of at a starting over stage with roses, so I have decisions to make and the planning is fun!

Mary, it's at a stand still for the moment. Got all the woody plants cut and/or dug out and have part of it ready for planting. So far only Buff Beauty has been acquired and planted, and I just picked up a Heuchera for the area called Carnival Coffee Bean. I've hit a snag in one part where a weed tree had grown into the fence. We've cut it, but the stump will probably need some kind of herbicide. I'm not thrilled about using chemicals, but will probably go that route. I should have some photos soon Smiling
