This was the first hosta I ever owned. But it was a few years into collecting hostas before I realized it was a hosta. It is distinguished by dark purple flower buds which never open. It's also very, rhizomatous which accounts for why I see it up and down the street. Obviously the long forgotten neighbour who gave it to me shared it with others too. Keep it in a spot where nothing really likes to grow or it can become a bully. Please feel free to post your own photos of this hosta.

I'm amazed the variation you get with this plant depending on the conditions. partial shade to full shade it stays under control. Mostly sun and the plant takes off!

Tell me about it! I had a patch of it in the front yard and it LOVED the location. It took me a long time to dig it out and I had to dig up little plants for years to come. My two plants are in a very dry spot between a Linden tree and my driveway and the other is next to my back yard compost, just north of a large maple tree. Nothing else grows well in either location.

I saw these in my neighborhood and was shocked at the bright color! Same plant, right?

Looks like it for sure. Yes, the colour is quite rich.
