A few years back (I just went through all the threads in this forum) Nap (Nancy in Buffalo NY) and Boo (Becky) started threads about murals they had done either in their own gardens or for clients.
Both were VERY nice, for sure.

I'm trying to revive this "mural" thread idea and hope some of you can post photos of murals you've done or seen in gardens.
They can be of any design, simple or elaborate, any subject matter, and be done on walls, fences, sides of bldg's etc.

I just spent two hours on Pinterest looking at murals looking for ideas. There's lots of them on there and I figured with all the artistic/talented people on this forum there must be more murals we haven't seen...so don't be shy !
Show us what you've painted to enhance your outdoor space or even photos of ones you've seen.

I can't draw to save my life but would love to see what any of you have done.

Great idea Mike - I'm looking forward to seeing what is posted as well.

Ditto here - can't draw either.

I've seen a lot of mosaicked murals, but I haven't done any large ones. I also can't draw to save my life!

So far that makes 4 of us who can't draw ! LOL
Wait...I take that back...I can do killer stick figures ! (Who can't ?)

I've seen people do some very cool murals on fences, gates, etc. which completely transform "dead space" in a garden and it changes the look dramatically, regardless of how simple or intricate the imagery is.

The other reason I started this thread is that I have an area in my garden that is under some stairs and is walled in on 3 sides.
It's actually a little outdoor shower alcove with a cement "floor". (These were common back in the day so you could wash the sand off yourself when returning from the beach.) It's in total shade, so nothing will grow in there.
It has a cool old hanging light fixture to illuminate it at night. I used to put potted plants in there but then I'd forget to water them and/or they'd die from neglect.
I want to do some kind of simple "scene" in there but don't have a clue as to what to do.
If my stupid photo program were working I'd submit photos.

Thanks for that link, Carole. Nice mosaics there.

This wasn't a big mural. We had a bench in the back yard that contained the equipment that runs a fountain. I mosaicked it on all 4 sides. It's held up well and adds a bit of interest to our xericscaped landscape.

These ought to be not easy...but achievable.

I will take some photos for you ..chapel hill loaded with murals on buildings.

I liked them thinking it was originally an area for showering. Plus that grass is easy to do. I watched one being done with little more than a pencil eraser

Thank you all, but as I've been saying, anyone can have fun with mosaics and create things you're proud of. It's very simple, and can be done in little bits of time. Eventually you have a finished project. If you have any interest, give it a try! There is so much info out on the web, and on youtube. If you have any questions, ask them here and I'll be happy to help.

I was a muralist for many years before retiring two years ago. I still paint for friends. but no more ladder work at my age!

For your alcove, Mike, painted plants would be perfect. You could place a real chair there too.

These are a few more adult styles I've done, maybe they are on the other thread.
