I received a t-mail from Arico (Lee-Roy) asking about the care of the iris japonica 'Ledger's' that I was growing in SoCal......well, I was in a subtropical zone there...no problem...LOL..stick it in the ground and it grows. So, I'm no help when asked about any special care for it in a zone 8 setting. Hoping this calls him over here and that someone may have some advice for him about the 'Ledger's and zone 8, what it may require there. I'm now in a zone 9 / Sunset 17 but haven't grown it here.
TIA
Sherry

Sherry, Do you know how Ledger differs from the species?
(nice to see you know how to spell "Sherry" correctly Hilarious! )

I'm curious, too. These little iris are very pretty. Our database doesn't say what zones in which they can be grown.

"Ledger's" is the only iris japonica I've grown....and as mentioned, that was in SoCal where there was no question as to what to do with it, just stick it in the ground and it does fine...so when Lee-Roy asked me about it, I drew a blank as to what zone or any other conditions it might like...it might do well here in my new zone area, did not bring it with me when we moved so I haven't given it any thought.

@henhouse....hahaha...my Mom said it was my Dad who filled out the birth certificate and the only "Sherry" he knew was for drinking...she had intended to spell it Cherie....

These things should not be left up to men.....my friend named her daughter Leland and her artist husband, paying no attention, designed cards which he sent out to everyone stating the daughter's name as Leyland...because to him it was natural to think British Leyland....
