I've only had about 4 plants that I've found this year, which isn't too bad, really.. I put the foliage and anything I cut off the rhizome in the garbage.. We can't burn this time of year because of the fire danger. I dig up the soil too.. and dump it far far away.. Treat the rhizome in a bleach solution.. One of the women in our club scrubs the rhizomes down with a toothbrush.

I've read about people putting straw on their Iris beds and burning it to kill diseases.. Anyone do that?

I like doing this also. Somehow I feel it helps control disease organisms and destroys borer eggs which are still attached to spent dried leaves, etc. I have not seen any harmful effects from doing this when it's done early in spring. It seems to greatly diminish borer problems.

It's not a complete loss yet, but I lost most of Drinks at Sunset to rot. I managed to cut away safely to a newly formed increase so we shall see if it that works to save at least some of it. It's a new one that I ordered this year Thumbs down Overall I've been pretty lucky with the rot, but not so much with the drying out of the little ones. Blue Parrot, Little Stitches, Going In Circles, Gongolo, Eye Bright, Devil Baby, and probably a few more didn't make it through the drought.

Sorry to hear it Liz. Sad Are you still watering the little guys in case they make a comeback? There are some pretty hardy ones in that group.

The ones that still have a hard rhizome I'm still watering to see if a miracle happens, but the ones that got shriveled and a bit spongey I threw out.

I completely understand the spongy and shriveled losses. Sad Sherry, that is just nasty and I hope it doesn't spread! Thumbs down I also use a toothbrush on my rhizomes. Whistling

Oh no, Liz! That are some nice ones you lost! Crying

Moved my Devil Baby, not because of rot but because of too much shade. Hope it likes it's new spot better and starts growing and maybe even gives me a stalk next spring! Crossing Fingers!

I agree the little ones I got seemed more upset by the extreme heat at transport and transplant for me. Some lost the whole fan, but baby leaves started back at the fan in the end for me.

My PP was planted just last year but it did well this spring. It bloomed rather late and I almost missed it. So many bloomed out of sequence this year.

This photo is of a bloom stalk that had fallen over and it was still a lovely bloom.

Here's the weird part of the bad weather/Iris loss of this year: so many of the the newer varieties that I planted in the Nurserybeds, took serious rot hits -- and either died, or are struggling along. But Patchwork Puzzle has flourished. The rhizomes boast HUGE fans of leaves -- every one of them. I expect to see lots of flowers next spring! Lovey dubby
