I have five Easter Cactus to add to the Database but I have no place to put them. The subject line is what I would suggest we use since they can be one or the other and most people do not know which they are since the growers do not specify when selling many times. The common name should be Easter Cactus. The cultivar can be added if the grower gives it one. Many sold in Home Depot, Lowes, Acme and not sold with tags. But they are either Rhipsalidopsis or Hatiora, mostly Rhipsalidopsis I would guess. Botanical Rhipsalidopsis are made up of two species Rhipsalidopsis rosea and Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri.

At present Rhipsalidopsis are now considered synonyms for species in Hatiora. If the species is known, an unnamed cultivar can be placed in either Easter Cactus (Hatiora gaertneri) (syn. R. gaertneri) or Easter Cactus (Hatiora rosea) (syn. R. rosea has been added).

If the species hasn't yet been determined a photograph of an unnamed plant should be put in the generic entry for Easter Cactus (Hatiora) which was just added.

Just make sure you have permission to add anybody else's image and then add a credit to them to the caption section.

I am not using any pictures but mine. I don't like to do that unless it is necessary then I always say who they belong to.

I am concerned about the database information on these Easter Cacti. I am sure most people who buy these plants have no clue what they have since most growers do not say what they are. The more I read about these plants the more confused I get. There has to be an easier way to decide what you have and where to put it. If you have time read
this info and you will see what I am talking about. It would be nice if we could just have one place for all of them but that would not be accurate.

By the way, I was putting info in about Comanche Spirit and I put that it flowers in Winter and late Winter, which is incorrect. I was thinking about the Thanksgiving Cactus not Easter. I put in a correction but I am not sure if you have seen it yet. Sorry about that. The Easter Cactus blooms in the Spring , early and late Spring too.

Hi Alisa, that is a very pretty Easter Cactus you have there, but unfortunately, there are so many Hatiora hybrids out there I would be guessing and that is not good for the database. Even if I knew where you got it, most of the growers now have two or three of each color for sale and unless it had a tag it is difficult to tell them apart. Good luck with your pretty little one.
