Wow, that's so pretty! I don't know Eucomis at all but it looks a lot like Pineapple Lily (Eucomis comosa 'Sparkling Burgundy')
Hopefully someone more familiar with these lovely plants will pop in and be able to help.

That IS really pretty. Lovey dubby The only thing I can tell you is that they won't live in Reno (but I am in love...).

It may not but hey, it's worth a try! Wow, 30 seedlings??? I hope you'll keep us updated on how they do ... they sure are gorgeous plants! Earlier I read somewhere (can't find it now) that said Eucomis might not come true from seed but I don't remember if it was a particular species.

I think you could grow them with mulch, the city park grows them here and we are zone 6.

Does it snow a lot where you live? I have discovered that not all zones are created equal. If your zone 6 is under 5 feet of snow all winter, the ground is somewhat insulated. It rarely snows here so the soil surface is the air temp which could be 5 degrees. On average, the ground freezes 18 inches down so anything that can't take being frozen into a solid block for the winter does not survive.

I have never seen them for sale at any of the local nurseries but next time I go, I will ask.

I grow them in containers and just put pot and all underneath my house for winter. My series of photos at start of this thread show growth from when I pull them out in spring till bloom.

The weather here is crazy. Most winters we do not get much snow and the ground is dry mostly, it freezes and thaws alot and I get alot of plant heaving. It is best to mulch plants and especially those that are zone borderline. I have found that if planted in the right place and mulched heavily, there are plants that survive and do great. It is trial and error. The park has had the pineapple lily now for about 3 years and it is does nicely.

If I find one, maybe a pot and into the garage for the winter. Mulch will blow away. I cover my American pitchers with 4 layers of burlap and bricks to hold it down.
