Please add Rhipsalidopsis Gaertneri genius in the data base so I can properly add the Sirius which is a white patented Easter Plant being sold in several nurseries. Thank you.

Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri is a synonym for Hatiora gaertneri. You can add the Sirius as a Hatiora cultivar.

I know that ZuZu, but is their a reason why it MUST be listed under Hatiora.....I realize that is the new valid way of listing it, but many of us old timers still use Rhipsalidopsis as do many of the growers . It could make it easier for new people also, who have not yet learned that many of the hybrids are still sold as and called Rhipsalidopsis. Just wishing there was a way to make an exception without it upsetting anyone. Sighing!

JB, the correct Genus listing is Hatiora because Rhipsalidopsis is a synonym. If new members search the database for Rhipsalidopsis it will take them to Hatiora.

Lin, I know that. But, some people do not. You know what. I give up. I am not trying to be difficult but obviously that isn't working. Thank you for all your advice. I will not bother you again.

@JB This is a common occurrence with many plants. The best correct solution is to add the "old name" to the entry. I always think of Butterfly Bushes (Buddleja) in these cases. Zuzu spent a great deal of time adding the still commonly used names Buddlea and Buddleia to these entries

In this case we would want to add Rhipsalidopsis to the Also sold as field for these plants so that they will show up in a search for Rhipsalidopsis.

Should Rhipsalidopsis be added to each of these hybrid cultivars?

JB,

If I've offended you in any way, I am deeply sorry because that was not my intention. I didn't think you were being difficult in any way and you were not bothering anyone. I was just trying to explain that if someone searches the database for Rhipsalidopsis, it will take them to the the plant they are looking for and show Hatiora as a synonym.

I think the reason it MUST be listed the way it is, is because that's the correct scientific/botanical manner in which to list it. We all want the ATP database to be as exact and as correct as possible and we have a great group of administrators who are always on their toes and making corrections to the database which is the reason why it's set up so that if someone types in the "formerly known as" Genus, it takes them to the current, correct listing.

Please forgive me if I butted in and spoke out of turn.

Lin

No problem. I am just going to let it go for now. This is to be relaxing and enjoyable , not stressful. I am just not in the mood to bother with the Plant list now. I appreciate your help and I do realize how difficult it is for you all to keep everything up to date and accurate. Thank you for your help.

No Evan, thanks but don't go to any extra work ......this particular plant 'Sirius' is special but it really does not matter how it is listed here. I will get back to you when I decide to work on the plant list again.

JB, I didn't find the cultivar 'Sirius' listed in the ATP database so I've submitted a proposal to have it added. I see when googling that it has pretty white blooms! I hope you will add some of your photos once it's listed.
