This is not a picture of my succulents but a picture of a lack of succulents. This picture was taken from a trail called 'Sneed's Cory'. Sneed's cory is a cactus. I think it might be an obsolete name, but it is a small, clumping cactus with white spines, if the pictures I've seen on the internet are correct. We saw no Sneed's corys or anything even close. I think they have all been stolen. It would be easy to do. I posted this on a couple cactus forums on Facebook and no one cared. No one was sad or angry, if you know Facebook emojiis. No one left a comment. Maybe they thought I was kidding. I don't know. (Location, Franklin Mountains State Park, El Paso)

It's official name is Escobaria sneedii and your story is a sad example of this plant's status in the wild, and par for the course with this cactus in any areas that are not protected in some form (e.g. national, state, etc. park) from collectors having free reign in taking these plants out.

Unfortunately there are many many examples of this all over the world. Another sad one is Agave utahensis var. eborispina which also has been relentlessly harvest from the wild where it is not protected.
It is what it is!

I like this time of the year too, when succulents starts going cold stressed so they get lipstick like colors at the edge, later on if it gets really cold all leaves turn reddish-orange to burgundy.
