Indirect Lighting Is Best for Plant Cuttings

When finding a window to place your plant cuttings, make sure direct sunlight doesn't beam through the glass and magnify onto something flammable. House fires can be caused with this unusual scenario.

Freaky accidents. Life is weird.

Wow! All my windowsills are full of plants and cuttings in water. Enough shade here though that direct is short or not likely. Good tip. Here's another to add. The brick in your laptops. Gets very hot sometimes, Be careful what you leave next to that: Kleenex or cig. lighters for example.

Good point JR. I NEVER leave my computer on when I'm gone. Don't leave the D/W running nor the washer or dryer either. And as long as we're on the subject of safety & fires etc...
This has happened to my DH twice: he cut his thumb or finger & put liquid band aid on it. Well it dries & is sort of like nail polish on your skin. Watch out! It's still flammable as all get out! DH used a lighter & it caught the liquid band aid on fire right on his skin. He didn't make that same mistake a third time.

Yep! The laptop brick gets hot if it's plugged in charging even if shut down. I have mine plugged into one of those strips with the switch and turn it off completely when I am not there. Most of the time I am working on it I keep it plugged in unless I take it someplace else, so turning the power off is just an easy precautiion.

I had a Bic or other brand of lighter, and used it to light a cigar while driving. Then I put it down in a little plastic well built into the car between seats.

Occasionally a lighter won't go right out when you release the lever!

Well, it ignited some napkins and that spread to the plastic itself.

I was smoking a cigar, so I didn't notice anything until the plastic started smoldering. Then I thought: "BOY, New Jersey has some nasty air pollution. I can smell something like burning plastic even over this cigar!"

"I wonder why my right elbow is feeling warm?"

I looked down and saw flames consuming napkins and plastic molding, washing around a Bic butane lighter. Inside my car. While I was driving.

That was scary. I grabbed and flung the lighter before it could melt or the butane could explode. Then I pulled over darn fast and was able to mostly out it out with my hands and a towel I happened to have handy. It was still smoldering a little until I found some water to sprinkle around through the melted holes in the plastic.

Make sure that butane lighters have gone OUT before you put them down amongst flammable objects! Kind of like hikers need to make sure that matches are cold enough to pinch before letting go of them.

Now that I'm paying attention, I see that many lighters can take several seconds to go out after being released. Each time, I think of my elbow "getting warm" and then seeing flames lick around a butane lighter.
