I love this plant! Like all of the other S. greggii plants in my garden, it stays evergreen and continues to bloom through the winter. Also, it's not a water hog. I had to give up many of my other salvias during the drought because they required too much water in summer.

I grew this one last year. It was pretty and lasted well into fall. I probably won't get one this year (it was a local purchase) because there are others I just like a bit better. But I did enjoy it very much- nice upright shape and flowers very pretty! Smiling

I've never seen it offered before, but I'll just keep getting salvias that FBTS offers. There are most likely salvias similar to it that Kermit has.

This year and last a record number of "new" Salvia greggii / microphylla types have been introduced into the mainstream nursery trade. More than we can possibly pick up and evaluate. From what I have seen, few of these are better in any way than what we already have. Occasionally a good new variety does come along, like last year's Salvia greggii 'Radio Red' (which is really not a greggii, but that's another topic). If one of these new ones lasts in the market more than a season (most don't) or appears to be special in some way we definitely look at it, but unfortunately few pass muster. Every breeder and major nursery is jumping on the Salvia bandwagon these days.

Salvias are becoming more and more popular nationwide, so this sort of mushrooming of "new" varieties will likely continue. For our part, we'll continue to trial promising new plants so as to keep up with the best of the new.

@FBTS
Well said Kermit! This variety was "new" last year at my local greenhouse stand (the nursery is in Kansas but they put seasonal outdoor stands in grocery store parking lots in the region every year). As I said this one was ok, but nothing outstanding. I am glad to have found FBTS because I know the ones you sell are tested and are good ones. I do appreciate the local places when they keep a few of the good ones that have been around. And the local places are good for other types of plants. But with the volume of different varieties of some salvias, I GREATLY appreciate that FBTS specializes in them. I agree with @Marilyn. FBTS is going to be my number one source for salvias. Thank You! Thank You! Kermit for all that you do! Hurray! I tip my hat to you.
