I really want to get some of Maryott daylilies, but Bill Maryott told me that he usually ship the daylilies to Texas in Sept, because by the time he start shipping it's too hot to plant them here.
I asked him if I can plant them in pots and transfer it to the flower bed in Sept/Oct, he said make sure to water it and put them in 3 gallon pot.

Maryott's gardens are in the mountains, from what I understand. His shipping starts late due to his weather. I would trust his advice. There is a plus side to fall shipping you can take advantage of his summer deals. He'll mark down some as the season goes, you'll end up with better deals, and time to save for them. Thumbs up

Previously, if I built an order over the course of the spring and summer, for delivery in the early fall, if he reduced the prices, I would be charged the sale price, as Bill does not charge until just prior to shipping.

I agree With James. You can place your order now and if you need to you can just add on as the need arises. Remember your back and don't get too carried away. I've never get carried away. Whistling
Your list looks good to me. I have Charismatic and Corralitos Rose and Spacecoast Lipstick Kisses. Charismatic and Corralitos Rose are too new for me to comment on other than the blooms are pretty. Spacecoast Lipstick Kisses is beautiful and reblooms for me.
If you start to run over budget, you can suggest bonus plants. nodding

javaMom, I live in Bakersfield, CA and our summer temps are usually over 100 with very dry conditions -- and as of last year we now have drought restrictions on watering too. I get my order from Bill every year in late June-early July, and I pot all the plants up and keep them on a table in the shade for a couple of weeks. And when he offers his weekly summer special sales I will occasionally purchase some and he'll ship them whenever I want, and I usually can't wait until September so he sends them in July or August at my request. Oh yes, and I pot mine up in 2-gal. pots rather than 3-gal.

If you order from him now you can specify your shipping date, and -- most important -- he doesn't charge your card until they're ready to ship, so you can always make changes via email including adding some from his weekly summer sales.

And has anyone mentioned that he sends incredible bonus plants? I love ordering from Bill Maryott!

Actually, Maryott's is only about 5-10 miles from the Pacific Ocean just a few miles south of Santa Cruz, and the mountains really begin a few miles east of his gardens. I got to visit his nursery back in 2011, and it was really wonderful.

He always waits until after spring bloom season to ship, so any flowers on your plants a couple of months after you receive them are actually rebloom -- and I've had a lot of them over the past few years! It's really amazing how many of his plants will bloom for you over the summer and early fall months, which is another reason I love Maryott's!

I love the Maryotts for many reasons.
Since I have so much work to do with plants that I already have, these are the only ones I am ordering this year.

I also have quite a few arriving that I bought from Michele late last summer.

Last year was my first time ordering from Maryott's. I received them in July and they bloomed in September. I ordered Bright in the Night, Mineral Springs, and Sailing at Dawn. he sent Kaanapali Coast and Sign Language as bonus plants. All were large healthy fans, unfortunately they came with a bit of rust. I initially pot planted them for a few weeks. The rust didn't rear it's ugly head until late September, after I planted them in a bed with some older cultivars. I loved the plants and I have placed another order for June delivery. I will keep them in pots and separated until late November. Hopefully I can contain the rust if it happens this year.

My husband told me a couple days ago that Bill had updated his website. My response to him was that I had planned to not look this year (so I would not be tempted to buy). I said to him, "I guess you have looked." He smiled real big and replied, "Yes, and he has some good buys again this year." I'll give you one guess what I did right then. Yep, I looked and he was right. I made a short list (for me) and placed an order with a message to Bill that I will surely add to this order before shipment in September.

Also, David has a LONG list to order for our local daylily club's members reward program. That list will have to be narrowed down before we can place that order.

@Betja Thank You! For the information about Matyott's location and shipping season. Everything makes much more sense, now that you have straightened me out. nodding
I would love to visit Maryott's during bloom season. It would be even better to meet Bill Maryott in person. Maybe someday, I'll make it out there.

Bill and Marilyn Maryott are really wonderful people, and he's such a great host! Every year when he confirms my order he invites me to visit if I'm going to Northern California, but unfortunately we don't do much traveling anymore so I haven't been able to make it. He's very enthusiastic about having visitors, but anyone who wants to visit the nursery should email him first to make sure it's a good time. He does most of his hybridizing in May, so that's a really busy time for him. But if you're interested in hybridizing I'm sure he would welcome a visit. He's really a great teacher!

If charge shows on statement that's how you know he's already shipped. (He doesn't send shipping confirmation email.) I search by the word "was" to find sale plants. Thinking of getting Loma Prieta.

I just received my first order ever from Maryott's and I must say that people were not exaggerating about Mr. Maryott's generosity! I ordered 8 plants for a total around $150. I received 5 bonus plants...one of which was equal to the value of my entire order!!! Hurray! Lovey dubby Hurray! Lovey dubby

I was able to get four in the ground before it got too dark today...the rest will have to wait til tomorrow. Big Grin
