I was trying to make a post, and only part of it showed up. This happened a couple of times. In the same thread, I had made longer posts, so I do not think the length made a difference. I use a Mac, with updated software. I usually use Safari. I quit Safari and switched to Firefox. Same thing. I restarted, tried Firefox again. Same thing.

Tried posting in a different forum. Same thing.

I can post about 17 lines then it cuts off. I checked for unusual characters -- it allows me to make the post if I break it down by paragraphs and post it in 3 or 4 different posts, so I don't think it is a problem with an illegal character.

Oh it shows up cut off when I preview too. If I go ahead and post it is still cut off.

Is anyone else having an issue?

Not here, I've never heard of this and can't even imagine what would be causing it. Confused

Are you using bb codes or trying to add HTML tags or anything like that when this is happening?

Nope, wasn't doing anything fancy. Very strange. I tried all my tricks to troubleshoot. I kept the text in a note file, to try again if I could think of anything else.

There was a security update to my OS a few days ago, but I don't think that would have caused an issue....

Could you email me the entire text of what you're trying to post, to [email protected]?

Also, are you getting this same thing happen if you try to tree-mail this?

Done

It even includes the text of the smilies...

I generally have zero issues so this was really odd.

Thanks for emailing, I was able to see the character in your post that was causing this, and I have programmed the system to work around that! So you'll never deal with this again.

It was the "less than" sign. (<)

In web browsers, that symbol is interpreted as the beginning of an HTML tag and is parsed as such.

On my side, I fixed your problem by taking the < symbol (and the > symbol) and converting them to entities that won't be interpreted that way by the browser, but will still display properly to the user. Smiling

Oh, Ok!

Thanks! I have used that before as a sort of shortcut smilie for an arrow. I used it in a yahoo group a couple days ago... but must not matter there.

Great info to know!

That was in the daylily data boxes discussion where it would not work... but it seemed to post ok when I broke it down into smaller paragraphs. Will have to go back and see if the symbol showed up when I posted by paragraphs.

Very interesting!

Hmm -- I went to check, and now the part that was missing on my long post on page 3 --- is all there again! How strange! I will go delete it, because that info ended up being different after finishing my talk with Bob, and talking with Mary.

Thanks!

Right, it was always there, just not displaying. Smiling
