Background history:

'Black Arrowhead' is a semi-evergreen diploid introduced in 2002 by Ned Roberts. Ned was nicknamed "Spiderman", because he had a passion for spider and unusual form daylilies. He passed away in 2006.

If you would like more information about this hybridizer, see Char's thread: The thread "ATP Series: The Daylilies of Ned Roberts" in Daylilies forum

It is a mid-season bloomer. It has earned the Honorable Mention: 2010 AHS award. It is listed as pod and pollen fertile with 1 registered child: http://garden.org/plants/paren...

This plant can be found in the ATP Plant Database at:

'Black Arrowhead' (Roberts-N., 2002) is a fabulous grower, clumps up quickly and is fertile both ways. I highly recommend this cultivar to anyone who favors the spidery-looking blooms.

I have this DL since last Autumn.
Sadly it is one of the very small plants that I received, so I think it will take a while before it will flower Sad
(but you never know, it may surprise me this Summer! Hilarious! )

I took a look at the childplant, My buddy Landon, : wow! Another DL for my wishlist Lovey dubby

My Black Arrowhead is not in the best location which may contribute to its relatively slow growth for me.
Blooms look great.
No report on fertility.

I've had Black Arrowhead for two seasons, this next summer will be it's third. It bloomed for me as soon as I got in 2019. I had to move it in the Spring of 2020 but it still bloomed for me and even rebloomed, which doesn't seem to be on its list of characteristics...was it just blooming from a new fan? Not sure but the reblooms started in early September which is two months past the original flush in July.

Black Arrowhead update. A very slow season for BA. Only four blooms. I feel like it might have used a lot of energy last year when it rebloomed. I'm hoping to see more action next year. It's new location might be too shady, as well.

Black Arrowhead is another winner for my zone 3 gardens, it has multiplied rapidly and flowers (and flowers, and flowers). I have it in the center of my primary garden, where it gets all day sun ... here in the north, during summer, that is almost 14 hours per day in the middle of summer, though days get shorter towards September. Every time I take a photo of 'any other daylily' near the mid-garden area, there are always Black Arrowhead flowers in the background.

Very hardy, loads of flowers - don't know about fertility, I have not done any crosses using my spiders, but it creates a nice balance against Calico Spider to its right - the dark and bright flowers have almost reverse colours and show well together.

A better summer for Black Arrowhead. But still not great. Despite having 8 fans it only produced 13 flowers, which means most of the fans didn't flower. Oh well, better luck next summer!

2023 update… BA did better this summer, 18 blooms counted, flowering from July 14-August 1. No rebloom again. I think that's probably the norm. It ended with 9 fans in October.
