Now's the time. As we speak they are setting their flowers deep down in the rhizomes for next year. Fertilizing now means more flowers in the spring.

And contrary to what some people believe, it doesn't hurt the plant a bit to fertilize now. Any new top growth is going to die back anyway, if you're in a cold area.

I use any general balanced fertilizer, 10-10-10, etc.

In the spring I fertilize again with a lower nitrogen feed.

This is for beardless only!

Thanks for the heads up Polly. Added this to the To Do Calendar. Do you tend to feed the JI a little heavier than the sibs?

I don't, Evan, but it won't hurt to do so. JIs are heavy feeders, but I just feed them all the same with good results.

Thanks, moved all but two clumps a month ago. They really enjoyed the drenching earlier this month.

You're welcome, Jo.

My gosh you've been busy, Rita! Do you have any passions other than gardening? I can't imagine you have time to do anything else.

Polly, that is about it. Gardening takes up my spring, summer and much of the fall. But you know that I love to be outside in my garden. In the winter I love to read. Well, I always love to read but have no time for it in the summer so come winter I read lots. All sorts of Fiction. I have Netflix too so rent some DVDS too to help pass the time. I rarely go out in the winter as I hate the cold.

Ditto Rita.
I watch YV ,not much of a reader. Netflix saves my sanity and Showtime on demand takes care of the rest.

The Winter's here are soooo long! I get into trouble buying new plants for Spring. Daylilies, iris & new lilies that I have to cram in somewhere come spring. I blame it on "cabin fever"!

I always hope for a mild winter with no or hardly any snow. Don't always happen that way though.

Hurray! Hurray! I did it. Got them all fertilized. Really doing the Siberians would not have been such a big thing but I had decided to do the daylilies also. I used Neptunes Liquid Fish Fertilizer and the hose end sprayer and just went around and did everything that needed it. I did my blueberry bushes also. Hurray! Hurray! They should grow like crazy next year as my yard stinks of fish fertilizer Rolling on the floor laughing

Polly, I know you said Fertilize for the beardless only. But some of them are really near some bearded iris. I tried not to get any fertilizer on the bearded but in some spots some fertilizer splashed on them. But I don't think it would do any harm, right?

I don't think so. I fertilize my bearded too, but I don't recommend that to anyone. If the rhizomes get new quick growth on the bearded they could rot. But since I do all of mine, I sure don't think what you splashed on will hurt.

I was happy to go out in the yard and have the smell gone or just about. Nothing to smell if you just stand in the yard but a slight wiff if you mend down and sniff the gaqrdenbeds. Not like yesterday though Thumbs up
