Plumeria forum: what's going on with this cutting?

cutting was dried for three weeks before being rooted in perlite. It was in perlite for about 4 days and this happened. I cut thru the shriveled part and it looked healthy except it looked like all the moisture had been sucked out of that one spot.

the base looked normal. the perlite was damp.

Hmmm have no experience in rooting using perlite and not really sure what happened there. Lovey dubby
