Here's a dwarf bearded iris I received in a plant trade. I thought it was Cream Cake,
but it doesn't look like the photos here. Can anyone guess what it might be?

I don't recognize it right away, Angie. Cant tell how tall it is from the photo. It matches several I grow but has too many ruffles. Is it under 16" from ground to top of bloom?

Bonnie: I'll measure it when I go out this afternoon and let you know. It's short! Another bloom scape is
barely out of the ground.

Any thoughts about who she might be?

The only one that I grow that even comes near yours is Vavoom.

As you can see it is not nearly as ruffled as your little guy. Some years it has more yellow in the standards and more light yellow on the rims of the falls. But Vavoom has a white beard.

I hope you can get it identified. It is a beautiful little iris and I really like it!

Angie, I really like your little dwarf! I looked through the database and did not see any photos that matched yours...but it's still a beautiful iris! Lovey dubby

I was thinking maybe Protocol.

This one is kinda weird with four of everything but you get the idea.

Protocol is an IB and too tall. Otherwise that would be a good one. Angie, is this its first years bloom for you?

Yes, it is, Bonnie. This is a new location for us and some of the irises are left from the previous owner,
an elderly lady who I'm sure bought them probably from Breck's, but there are so many lovely irises here
and I have no idea who they are. I brought some of my own with me, mostly from Mary Ann (Muddymitts)
and I have tried hard to keep them labeled.

Thank you, one and all, for your comments and your suggestions. Guess I'll just enjoy their beauty and
fragrance!

I will keep that little guy in mind when I am perusing iris gardens for a possible match, Angie, but like you said they are really for our enjoyment and that one is just lovely.

Are you sure it's an SDB? Neither the shape of the buds nor the branching of the bloom stalk look very typical for an SDB. Lori may be on the right track with 'Protocol'.

No, Kent. I'm not sure of anything about it. I was guessing, based on its size, that it's a dwarf, but
maybe this year's first bloom is an anomaly and it is an IBI. Who knows? And there are so many
lovely irises, it's probably a mystery that will never be solved! Thank you for your suggestion, though.
Love the iris photos you post!

If it starts regularly producing some flowers with four falls and four standards, that would also be a good indication that it might be 'Protocol'. The clump in my yard does it every year and, whenever I see it in display gardens, there's almost always a few individual flowers with four parts instead of three.

Thanks, Lori and Kent. I'll watch to see how it performs and whether it has 4 of everything. It's pretty full of buds!
