'Blue Ivory' is a sport of 'Halcyon'. I've had it since June 2010. It has spear-shaped, powdery blue leaves with a very wide, creamy white margin. It's supposed to be medium in size but mine has been an exceptionally slow grower. I moved it to a new location for 2015 and it seemed to do better, but I'm still waiting for growth from this one. Please share any photos you may have of this hostas.

I added Blue Ivory last year but didn't take a closeup pic. It is a lovely Hosta. I seem to be attracted to any members of the Halcyon family!

It's hard to go wrong with members of the 'Halcyon' family. Mostly good growers and they last extremely well all season long.

I have several of this one, and really like both the colours and the substance. One of the younger plants keeps sending up all blue leaves, which for a while I removed but eventually gave up on. On the advice of the owner of the national hosta collection here, I tried washing the roots in a dilute bleach solution, but it made no difference. Any suggestions? Perhaps I should just let it be a blue! Smiling

I don't have any suggestions Mika, but wondered about the advice of washing the roots in a bleach solution. How would that affect the colour of the leaves? Just interested in the theory behind that.
Thank You!

I think the theory was that the bleach solution (1 to 10) would destroy any pathogens which might have been causing the problem with the colour. They said it worked for them in more than half the cases they had - though it didn't fix my problem! Smiling

That's interesting; thanks for letting me know. Will have to keep that tip in mind.
Sounds like that particular Blue Ivory is trying to revert back to Halcyon; I wonder if that is common with that Hosta?

I don't know about Blue Ivory reverting, but my Touch of Class regularly puts up blue sections. Chris from Hallson's told me that Q & Z just called it Bulletproof and sold it like that.

Anyway, here's a 2016 update. Not sure yet whether it will show better growth in the new location. This photo Aug. 21
