Hello...my name is Mike. I have been growing orchids for awhile. I had a nice big collection back during the early 80s. Right before I got married in 1990 the heater in my greenhouse failed on a cold Georgia night. I lost all of my plants, but just a couple of cymbidiums. Then life happened, two beautiful children. So, now I am getting started back growing them. I have a few catts. that are a year or two from blooming. The rest are catts. seedling in 3 inch pots. I am wanting to buy flask or compots and grow them into a great growing state and then sale the seedlings in 2 to 3 inch pots. That is my dream anyway. Great growing to everyone. Hurray!
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Welcome to the forum!! It must have been absolutely awful to lose your collection like that. For those of us growing in colder climates, an event like that is always in the back of our mind during the Winter months.
I am happy you haven't lost your love for these beautiful plants and you will surely have a lot of experience to share.
Join in and have fun!

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the neighborhood! Welcome! (that's the LARGER neighborhood of orchid craz... (Oops!) enthusiasts. Smiling

I lost about 3/4 of my orchids about 3 years ago when I move to Reno from CA. My greenhouse was supposed to be done by August. I moved all my plants to Reno anticipating they would have to live in a spare room for maybe a month. Nine months later, the greenhouse was complete enough to move into but most of my plants were dead. Too little light, too little humidity and too little water. Crying Then I dumped a few more because I didn't want to deal with mealybugs in my brand new greenhouse. Grumbling

Hi Mike, been there done that! And I know a great grower for a day trip for you and your family. Marble Branch Farms is just north of Atlanta and the Orchid Gallery in on Signal Mountain. Join Atlanta Orchid Society and get to go to the Orchid greenhouse at the Botanical Center, kind of behind the scene.
