I keep trying with Lupines but I never have much success. Last year I sowed a dwarf variety in a container and it did better than most, but did not return this year.

Nicotiana is a garden mainstay for me. I grow several species and alternate each year so I can keep trying new ones while maintaining my favorites. In good years some winter over in sheltered areas and some others are re-seeders. Hummingbirds are all over them. On the downside, cutworms, flea beetles and Tobacco Hornworms are all over them, too.

I'm not able to grow Nicotiana either. I love the fragrance.

I remember once I was at a landscape nursery...I put a nicotiana pot on the counter....and the young thing behind the counter exclaimed " Oh! WHAT is that perfume?? My boyfriend would LOVE THAT!! 😝
Don't squat with yer spurs on!

People try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved

You grow it in sun or shade? I don't understand why it wont grow for me......the fields here are full of regular tobacco that does great.

They seem to do best for me in dappled shade or half day shade for most of them. Full sun seems to bleach them out and shorten their lifespan.
