Update. I was able to root the spiderwort by sticking the cuttings in moist soil in the garden bed, about 4 inches deep. So excited this worked. Very easy too. Thanks for all the help everyone!

So glad they rooted for you! I threw hands full over the fence a few weeks ago. All the rain had caused it to spread where I didn't want it. It rooted on top of oak leaves (that I threw over the fence a month earlier)! When the weather gets really hot here, the plants disappear. As soon as it cools a bit in the fall, they pop up again.

If you decide you need more in the future, our lawn is about 10% Tradescantia ohiensis. Happy to send as much as you want for postage reimbursement.

Well, when it get into the high 90s to low 100s, spiderwort and friends just melt away until it cools again.
