Well, that was fun! And easy! I just moved a whole thread of photos we've wanted to get into the database since October 2010, and it sent my acorn total soaring!

Dave thanks this is the feature I've been waiting for. Question I did 3 pictures about an hour ago and don't see them in the database or in the waiting to be approved section , Do they go someplace till they are approved?

What if the original poster didn't want the photo in the database?

I have had problems in the past with people "lifting" certain images to use on a site called The Lily Auction.

I do use the watermark feature, but if I were going to put my own image of a daylily on the database, I would make sure that the copyright info - or maybe even more copyright info I would put on myself was OVER the flower part of the photo. This does not stop all the people from taking images without permission, but it does make it more difficult.

When I am posting to the forums, I don't worry about it as much.

Sorry to be a "spoiled sport" but I'm not to comfy with others adding my images to a database, even if I do get an acorn.

Is there a way to get the original poster's permission before adding it? Or, possibly, a way for a member to turn this off in preferences?

There is a different queue for these kinds of proposals and that queue wasn't available to everyone yet, but it is now! You can see it listed as "miscellaneous proposals" right under the links to the other two queues.

They can always be deleted by the owner of the image. Just go to the image in the database and scroll to the bottom and click on "Delete this image" and away it goes.

Not at the moment, but I can certainly add any username to a block list that would prevent it. If you want me to do that for you, let me know!

From the "Copying an image" thread in this forum,

dave said:
I'm working on a system where you can take an image in the forums and propose that it be added to the database under a specific plant.

I will also set it up so that if you don't want your images to be considered, I can opt you out of this.

I did see this thread, Dave, and thought maybe you were going to have a preference on our profile? I did go check, but didn't see anything.

Yes, for now, if you don't mind, when you get around to it.... I would like to be opted out. I have been copying images into a folder on my desktop to be added to the database. My organization of photos has been poor in the past, but I have been working on getting them together! Then I hope to start adding to the database. I just need to crop, copyright etc. I also like to be sure that I embed copyright info with either Photoshop or Bridge. Will the database strip out that info?

Thanks - sorry to be PITA.

Here is an example of one I imbedded copyright info with Photoshop. It shows up with Bridge.

Making it a preference option wasn't my plan. My plan was that if anybody wanted to opt out, I will create the system to make that happen and add their name to the list of those who can't be imported in.

It's no trouble at all. I will make the opt out mechanism tomorrow morning and will add your name to the list.

The system won't mess with any copyright info you do add later on.

Thanks - sorry to be PITA.

Thank you! I've just been burned a few times. When you spend a lot of money on a camera, time to learn to use it, time editing with Photoshop, etc.. then someone just lifts your image to use to make money -- Angry -- I know it happens all the time, but I try to do what I can to avoid it.

One of the reasons I like it so well here (and at Cubits) is how easy it is to switch from no copyright info to the small type at the bottom, to the one with the big diagonal type.

I agree It is indeed frustrating to have to share this world with criminals and people who don't care about others, or have respect for their property.

I sent a Picture of Heucherella Stoplight from the Heuchera Forum to database. It does not show up on the first page you have to open up to see it. Being it is the only picture of the plant should it show on first page or is set-up different when pics are sent from a forum.

Juli, I have the opt out system in place and now nobody can propose your images for inclusion into the database.

Dave, I found a whole thread of photos that refuse to move.

The thread "What are the five best performers in your rose gardens?" in Roses forum

I get this message for all of them:

Sorry, this photo is not eligible for copying into the DB.

Images uploaded to my server in the VERY early days of cubits are not currently compatible with this. That thread was created 4 days after I launched Cubits. Smiling

I need to do some work before those older images are compatible. I'll look into it right now and will post my findings soon.

No, Vic. That's not going to work at all. They are talking about a very old thread Cubits that was copied over to ATP. The systems are compatible, but the pieces don't fit perfectly, and sometimes not at all.
