Hi!
Does anyone grow this daylily? It's in my garden since spring 2014, so it's the third year. It still has one fan, leaves grow well but never bloomed. Now it seems it stopped to have new foliage. It's in one spot where rains don't always gets it unless some wind pushes drops in that direction. It's been fertilized as the others, but it's slow and no blooms. Any opinion?

Sabrina, I got Always Afternoon through ebay, and it has done well for me. I received three fans in July of 2014 and it bloomed the following spring. I liked so much that I reordered again from the same vendor. The fans have increased from three to six. Mine is more of a peach color rather pink.

Lovely bloom Pat! I ordered it on ebay too, it was a single fan. I don't know what's happening maybe I should move it? Could I move it now or it's too late?

I would move it so that it receives water, which is the best fertilizer for daylilies.

Many thanks. I water it by hand, but it's not the same water of course. I'm afraid it's a bit late for moving but on the other hand it's doing nothing (no blooms or new fans) so maybe it's not a problem?

I had it here but it died. Much colder winter than yours though. I think it was once a plant of the day, maybe there are more comments on that thread, unless I'm dreaming..

It seems it's a good bloomer and fast grower for everyone. Sue, sure we have milder winter than yours. The plant hasn't disappeared, it behaved like an evergreen.

ok, disregard this if it doesn't apply to you.

Be very careful ordering plants on ebay, some sellers will sell you junk plants, and by the time they bloom 2 years later (after much life support) they won't be what you ordered. There are reputable sellers on ebay, but many are not. I am sure if you ask, there are members here who can tell you who the good sellers are.

I've noticed that when I plant a single fan it can be years before I see a bloom, if ever. Not sure why but I have little to no luck with single fans. I gave several cultivars to a neighbor but kept 1 fan in case they died the first year. Despite being almost totally neglected hers have taken off like rockets. I still have the same single fans and they haven't bloomed except for one. That one is now 2 fans but it took 2 years. Maybe they miss their clump mates?

Frillylily, I don't remember who was the seller but sure it was in europe. Not italian, I believe from Germany. I thought about this not being always afternoon too, I just have to wait and see.. and hope for the better.

Elena, the past year I divided some double fans into single fans I didn't have enough space so I needed to move some. One single fan grown into a three fans plant, the other in another spot in the garden is still a single fan.

I too have a really hard time getting SF to do anything but sit there. I started some dl from proliffs and they are still tiny-3rd yr

I really don't understand why. Every double fan started as a single fan... why they don't grow?

If it's not multiplying, it probably is because of lack of water. A two-year-old plant should have produced at least one new fan. Why is it too late to move it? If you move it with a lot of soil, there should be minimal transplant shock.

mantisOH, I didn't want to move it because I already had some project for the free spots in the garden, and then I thought being in may maybe the plant is doing something and I shouldn't interrupt it.

I try to water it to keep it up with the rest of the garden, when it rains and it stays dry I water by hand. Sure the plant it's not happy.

I grow Always Afternoon, and live in zone 8b, in South Carolina. This daylily does well for me, and multiplies at an average rate; usually a couple of new fans each year.

I have certain daylilies that seem to pout in some garden spaces, while others do just fine. If I have one that pouts, I try to leave it where it's at for a couple of years for it to adjust. After a few years, if it still doesn't do well (and others around it do), I'll try it in a new spot. If that doesn't work, I find it a new home

Thank you Regina! I think I'm gonna let it sit there for this summer too, and if nothing changes I will move it in september. I'm feeling quite depressed seeing all these beautiful blooms

I found the very first scape today!!! Now hoping for it to be really Always Afternoon and not an ebay surprise!

I have grown Always Afternoon for many years. However one year it did very well and the following almost nothing. So i moved it a few years back and it kinda lingered but never produced much. Last year i redid a side bed and put all kinds of good stuff in it that any plant would like and i moved AA into it and now the blades on it are bigger than ever. We have had a very wet spring here.
I never buy from sellers that only give you one fan because really it takes two tango. Lol.
