What's the best type of hydrangeas to plant in Zone 5 areas? I have four Endless Summer hydrangeas, the oldest of which is 10 years old. We take really good care of them, wrap them in leaves, surrounded by chicken wire in burlap in the winter. Unfortunately, last year most flowered very little and one did not flower at all. I love these plants, but I'm wondering if I should remove them and start with something else.

I'm a zone colder than you but had to give up on the one Endless Summer plant that we had. It didn't flower after the first year, then gradually died back a bit more for the next couple of winters. Ones that do well here are the 'Annabelle' and PeeGee types. Not as much colour but more reliable.

Welcome! to NGA by the way

I have one 'Endless Bummer' and I'm about ready to remove it. Granted, the winters of 13/14 and 14/15 were rough and the thing died back to the ground with no flowers the two following years. This past winter was very mild and it still died back to the ground. I'm at a loss as to what to do with it.

I find the Pinnacle Hydrangea like Pinky Winky do much better after a harsh Winter.
