This happened to be someone living near me (I live less than a km from zoned farmland but my area only has city lots). He had tree peony seedlings for sale and thought the mother is "Tria". Looked up Tria and from what I can find there is no reported fertility. I went anyway to get a couple of seedlings. He only had the one tree peony and stated that it kept dropping seeds which then sprout. For five dollars a piece I couldn't go wrong.
The mother plant that he has shows the typical three buds at the end of the blooming stem on several stems. Sadly, no blooms because he had just dug it up to divide this month as it was too big for the spot. So all the green growth was wilted.
Anyways, I'm guessing I have 5-10 years to wait for blooms! The bigger seedling is about a foot tall.
Hurrah for volunteer seedlings!
