The ones that have no cultivar (species only) will appear first in the list.

Hurray! Hurray! I see the light. Hurray!
If I type in Sempervivum in the search box it takes me to the list of semps starting with A, it doesn't show the species. http://garden.org/plants/brows...
If I Browse by genus it take me to the page with species showing first. http://garden.org/plants/brows...
Since there are two ways to get to the semps will this be a problem with new people using the database and missing the species?

Well, if you search for exactly "Sempervivum" it will send you over to the Browse by Genus list.

But if you search for more than that, then it will search for the text you search for. I think it's a pretty good system and I don't think it'll confuse people.

Basically, the rule of thumb is: if you want to see a list, use the "Browse" page. If you want to search for a specific plant, use the search engine.

I just learned something new about searching for something. Thanks Dave.

But I still have the question of where would a person find the species plants if they get to Browse by Genus list? They may not know about the species and wouldn't see them in that list.

The species show up in the list, after all the cultivars have been shown. This is the behavior that was requested by someone for the list (might have been you!)

Might have been. Whistling
I now can find them if I use the page numbers and not the alphabet. They are on the last page of the numbered pages.
