That first trip of mine was in '84 or '85...maybe as late as '86....Gatlinburg was the biggest thing in the area then....Pigeon Forge had some cheap hotels & Dollywood and not much else...Sevierville had NOTHING! It was beautiful. Sad Well, the mountains are still beautiful, but the rest, not so much. I think the casino in Cherokee was the beginning of the end....

Here's a question for ya...is it pronounced seVEER or SEEver....we kept asking and getting different answers while we were there. Shrug!

I have never been here until we moved here in 96 I never got to see it in the 80's. But I hear stories all the time. All of the people that I work with have lived here there whole life. It has grown a lot since I moved here. It's just a big tourist trap

Pronounce it like there is a 'severe' thunderstorm. And then ad Ville
Sevierville

If I dug out my old photo albums I could probably find some pictures from that trip...long before my computer was the place to house photo's! Hilarious! Where did you move there from??

Thanks for the correct pronunciation!

Yes, it IS just a big tourist trap now...sad really, but like Ken said, LOTS of places that used to be untouched and beautiful are becoming 'traps'. I was sad to see the old ski-lift in Gatlingburg was shut down due to "retirement", which I thought was a hilarious little handmade sign...I hope someone buys it and re-opens it.

Pisgah Forest is still beautiful...when the time is right, I'll find my own little slice of heaven, I'm sure!

Still lots of beautiful and unspoiled places in western NC. Asheville is overly touristy and full of hipsters but there are many lovely towns surrounding the area. I would love to have a place in Saluda, NC. It is about a half hour from major civilization like big hospitals and big stores - which you do need once in a while - but time has forgotten the town. The thriving main street still looks like it did 100 years ago. Some of the same families still own the stores.

I was born and spent most of my youth years in vermilion Ohio we move here when I was in high school.

Even though it is a tourist trap. I still work for the city and we welcome everyone to come spend there money. I'm just trying to get a raise Whistling

North East Pennsylvania / Lackawanna county, this is our location. We have a dirt road running past our place and through the woods, if you get 2 cars a day driving through, it's a traffic jam!!
It is quiet and peaceful with Cow pastures nearby and Corn fields, meadows and woods.

No wonder why that reminded me so much of New York, Ursula....you're pretty much due west of where I lived (Accord & Washingtonville)...NICE woods...no palm trees!

You're funny, Heath!
