Rita, you need to give them a try all year long, as long as the plant is producing some fruit. Thumbs up

Well when the tomatoes first set fruit I am waiting for those ripe ones really impatiently so I would not be taking any green fruit off the plants. But later yeas, I should and not wait till late fall.

Next thing you know, y'all will be adding chicory to your coffee. Whistling

By the way, for those who have visited New Orleans and had coffee and beignets at Cafรฉ Du Monde, that cafรฉ au lait had chicory.

Rita, I have to think that with the number of plants you have, you could spare a few green tomatoes at any time for frying! Hilarious!

Those green tomatoes in the store were actually "unripe green," and not green like Aunt Ruby's German Green, right? Not that I've ever seen green tomatoes either way being sold up here...

Maybe I already said this, but you'd kind of think fried green tomatoes would have started out as a northern thing -- where we're lucky to ripen the tomatoes some years! nodding

I discovered some tiny baby tomatoes on my Beaverlodge Slicer plants today, but they have quite a ways to go before I can fry them up, I'm afraid! (might have to buy some of the tomatoes at the store -- they're certainly as hard and flavorless as green ones, even if they look more or less red Sticking tongue out )

Yes, the ones in the store are the unripe regular fruits.

Hurray for your beaverlodge babies!

LOL... that's one I hadn't thought of before, buy some of those supermarket tomatoes and fry them up like green ones from the garden...

This past week I bought some Green Tomatoes from the guy with the roadside stand. He had a basket full of huge green tomatoes ( the size of a softball ) with a sign "frying tomatoes". I bought two along with a big Texas Black Diamond Watermelon. Fried up both of the matters for supper and had about 1/4 of the watermelon for desert. Thumbs up

Friend of mine once gave me some pickled watermelon rind. Oh goodness, that was good.
