Hi all. Been a long time member here (& DG before that, & GW before that), but I tend to not post much. I mostly lurk & read a lot of the posts. Smiling Just thought I'd post a few shots of my adeniums. Sorry in advance for the backgrounds. I didn't plan these pics in advance and I was in a hurry because I was trying to get some watering done before some company showed up.

First is a variegated adenium I found at Home Depot. Never saw them carry adeniums before until a month or so ago. They had 2 varieties - 1 variegated & 1 non-variegated - and being that I am a variegation nut, I ended up with 3 of those. Nice size plants at only $15 each! Kind of a mostly solid dark pink flower. Doesn't seem well formed (at least these first few blooms), but still nice. This one is in about a 10 inch azalea-type pot.

Here is a little dwarf I bought on eBay a month or so ago. Has the typical pinkish-red flowers, but no blooms right now. In a 4 inch clay pot.

Next is my big mama. She's not really that big, but I've had her for about 3 or 4 years now. She's in a 12 inch clay azalea pot. Typical obesum-type flowers. Buds forming, but none open yet. She's getting a little leggy - need to give her a slight haircut once she blooms out.

These are my babies - please ignore my poor little wilted tomato plants in the back right. I need to get them in the ground! Those adeniums in the 6 cell flat (lower/front right) were started in March, I think? It's on the label, I just don't remember. All of the others were started right about 5 weeks ago. I'd read somewhere that letting them dry out well between waterings at the seedling stage can help grow a larger caudex. Thought I'd try it, and a number of the younger seedlings are nearly as fat & plump as the older ones. Most of the seeds were all ordered from overseas via eBay and a few others were also imports, but were purchased from TopTropicals. I love all of the various leaf shapes, sizes and colors even at this small stage!

Interestingly, out of about a hundred or so, I ended up with 4 pure white seedlings. I'd always heard that the white ones would die. Well, once I moved them outside, I noticed they had started to pink up a little. Within a very short time, they were virtually indistinguishable from the rest. I did lose one of them. One I lost track of and can't remember which one it is. Here are pics of the other two. Both were pure white until I potted them into these flats & moved them outside into some sunlight. The first (towards the back of the pic, leaning) did get its first white leaves burned off by the sunlight, but as you can see, the new leaves growing in are "normal" green. The second one (kind of front & center of the second pic) has always been healthy, and it's leaves seem to be kind of a golden yellowish/green.

Carter,
Nice group of plants. I love the Variegated plants also. The red w variegation is quite something. Looks like you have lots on the go.

Fine looking plants, Carter. You are about 100 plants and years ahead of me. Whistling

Thanks, Rick. I have several more variegated adeniums (different varieties), I just didn't get pics of them yet. I grow 100's of various kinds of plants, but those with variegated leaves just always capture my attention.

Lol, Ken! Ya, I'm kind of a glutton for punishment. Now that I've got 100 little adenium babies, I'm wondering what in the world I was thinking! I did lose a few early on, so I may only have about 90 now. That's better ...right?? Hilarious!

A few of my babies are developing wavy & curled leaves. I'm guessing this may be some sort of mite issue? I'm battling aphids on some nearby hibiscus & chrysanthemums, but I haven't seen any aphids on these little guys. A couple of pics two different seedlings affected:

You are only about 70 ahead of me then. I have 18. I simply can't add more. I have a "few" plants to deal with as is. Whistling

Nice trees. The variegated leaves are growing on me too. I also like the fuzzy grayish leaves with the red flowers. I just have only seen pic of them.
Your reducing water to the seedlings sounds interesting, but I killed so many by not giving them enough water. Tiny seedlings really seem to like water. Yours are a little older so may be the caudex will thicken. Good luck.

Interesting read. I have some seeds coming and I will keep these thoughts about watering in mind. Thank You!

@Carter, I am slowly making my way through the Adeniums forum and learning as I go. Let me ask you....what kind of soil do you start your seeds in?

Missy, I don't think they're too picky as long as the soil is well draining. What some of mine are in right now is about equal parts perlite, peat moss, & vermiculite (which is actually the same mix I use for my indoor African violets). A few others are in about equal parts "regular" potting soil & perlite. I'm not too particular when repotting, other than making sure the soil drains really well. Of course, your mileage may vary. Smiling I do know from my reading that there are others here on the adenium forum that can give you much more expert advice.

Mine are all outdoors in about 50% to 75% sun.
