Thread OP

Hi, I recently planted some strawberry seeds but when they started growing I found some other stuff growing as well and I have no idea what it is. Does anyone recognise it? I live in Berlin, Germany, in case it helps because it is something local.

Welcome.

I think it is a kind of weed. Maybe Polygonum barbatum. For better guess maybe we should wait for that flower bud to bloom Smiling

Hey, is it gladiols at the back ?

I do monarch butterflies and am 99% that's a milkweed.
They all have those same lines along the leaves. do NOT KILL IT, plant it, only plant monarch will lay eggs on. It's gold...

I think milkweed not really fit to the picture. They have opposite leaves and dont have that sheath like structure on its leaves Smiling

That sheathlike structure and flower buds resemble to Polygonum (now Persicaria). Thank you Janet to updating the new name I tip my hat to you.

It seems that P.barbata is asiatic plants. Not sure if that strawberry seed have contaminated with that.

Some of european cousin on the link that Janet shared seems close to it. Maybe it is one of them ?

Hahahhaha... Hilarious!

By the way i am 100% supporting for monarch butterfly. It said that they live in indonesia too. But I dont think have seen them. Milkweed not a common plant here. Especially around my house. (Sorry for beeing out of topic)
